Moon Story: The Moon I Share with You

A large, bright moon hung in the night sky. It was round and luminous.

Tubae was in the yard, washing her face while gazing at the moon.

She lowered her head and was surprised: “There’s a moon in the basin too!”

Tubae happily carried the basin into the house and closed the door. Ah, the moon was still in the basin, just as beautiful and bright.

With the moon, Tubae didn’t even need to turn on the light. The gentle moonlight from the basin illuminated the room.

The next morning, the first thing Tubae did after waking up was to check on the moon in the basin.

The moon in the sky was gone, but the moon in the basin was still there. However, since it was daytime, it didn’t look as spirited.

Still, it was there! Tubae was very happy. She carefully covered the basin with a towel.

That day, Tubae went fishing by the river with her friend Bear.

As night fell, Bear looked at the sky and said, “Ah, there’s no moon tonight.”

Tubae looked up and saw that it was true. The sky was filled with dark clouds, not even a shadow of the moon.

Tubae proudly said to Bear, “Guess what, there’s a moon in the basin at my house…”

She took Bear home and lifted the towel from the basin for him to see.

There was a bright, round, and radiant moon floating on the water’s surface.

The moonlight shone on Bear’s face. He admired it and said, “How wonderful! I wish I had a moon like this too.”

Tubae generously said, “We’re good friends, I’ll share some of the moon with you.”

She found a big bowl and poured some water, along with the moon, from the basin into it.

A smaller but equally beautiful moon appeared in the bowl.

Bear happily carried the bowl home. With the moonlight illuminating his path, he wasn’t afraid of the dark.

When he passed by Squirrel’s house, Squirrel asked, “Bear, why is your bowl glowing?”

“Because there’s a moon in my bowl,” Bear replied.

Squirrel looked and was also envious.

“It was Tubae who shared it with me,” Bear gave credit to his friend.

“I’ll go ask Tubae for a moon too,” Squirrel picked up a water ladle.

Bear continued on his way home, and along the way, he met Frog, Monkey, Lamb, and Deer…

After seeing the moon in Bear’s bowl, one by one, they all went to Tubae, for who wouldn’t want their own moon?

Bear became a little worried. He turned back to Tubae’s house.

Oh, there was already a queue of people asking Tubae for the moon. They brought water cups, fish tanks, iron pots, wooden barrels… anything that could hold water and thus, a moon.

And Tubae? She carefully held her basin, sharing the moon along with the water, little by little, with her friends.

Bear raised his bowl and said, “I have a moon here too, I’ll share some with you all…”

When the friends left, each of them had a satisfied smile on their face, their containers emitting a faint moonlight.

Tubae’s basin had only a little water left, just like Bear’s bowl. Bear felt a bit embarrassed and said to Tubae, “I’m sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing?” Tubae said with a smile. “We only had one moon, but now we have many stars.”

“Stars?”

Yes, indeed. When they were pouring the water, the surface kept shaking, breaking the moon into smaller pieces. The little pieces of the moon looked like twinkling stars.
