Long Tail Monkey Story

In a small forest home, a mother monkey gave birth to a particularly mischievous little monkey.

When the little monkey had nothing to play with, he loved to play with his own tail.

Sometimes, he would put the tip of his tail in his mouth and nibble on it. Other times, he would pull on his tail with both hands to see if it would stretch.

Whenever his mother saw this, she would say, “Stop playing with your tail, child.”

The little monkey would stop for a moment, but as soon as his mother turned her back, he would start playing with his tail again.

The little monkey thought to himself, “If I don’t play with my tail, what else can I play with? My ears aren’t fun, and I can’t play with my eyes.”

One day, the little monkey asked his mother, “What’s the use of a tail?”

His mother thought for a moment but couldn’t really answer. “Well… it doesn’t seem to have much use.”

The little monkey said, “Then it must be for playing.”

He would sometimes pull his tail up to his head and pretend it was a braid, and other times he would wrap it around his waist like a belt.

His mother warned him, “If you keep playing with your tail like that, it won’t grow properly.”

She was worried.

The Tail Gets Longer

One day, while the mother monkey went out to pick some fruit, the little monkey snuck out to play by himself.

The forest was incredibly beautiful, especially the tall, tall trees—they were just perfect! The little monkey climbed the tallest tree he could find, hooked his feet on a branch, and swung upside down like a swing.

Then, he wrapped his tail around a branch and started swinging using his tail.

Swinging by his tail felt even more fun.

The wind whistled in his ears as it sang a song; the grass and flowers on the ground seemed to come closer and then move away; the leaves fluttered around him like green butterflies. “Hey! I’m the happiest little monkey in the world!” he shouted joyfully. Even the sun couldn’t resist peeking through the clouds to see what was happening in the forest.

But something strange started happening. The little monkey noticed that the grassy, flower-covered ground was getting closer and closer to him. “What’s going on?”

As he swung, his tail was getting longer and longer, so he was getting closer and closer to the ground.

The little monkey had no idea what was happening.

At that moment, a little fox was walking by with his head down, and as the monkey swung down, he bumped right into the fox. “Ouch!” The little fox fell to the ground with a thud. “That hurt!” The fox rubbed his sore head, very upset. “Why did you bump into me, little monkey?”

The little monkey replied, “I don’t understand either. I was swinging from a very tall tree, and you were walking on the ground. How could I have bumped into you?”

“Really? You were up high?” The fox looked up.

When he saw what was up there, his mouth dropped open in shock. “Oh my! Such a long tail…” The little fox let out a scream and fainted from fright.

At that moment, the little monkey turned to look at his tail. He was just as shocked. “Oh no! Is my tail really that long?”

The little monkey nearly fainted as well. “Oh no! What am I going to do with such a long tail?” he wondered.

The Long-Tailed Monkey Becomes a Monster

The little monkey gathered up his long tail, wrapping it around himself over and over, and carried it on his shoulder—he looked like an electrician carrying a big coil of wire.

Just then, the little fox woke up. As soon as he did, he started shouting, “There’s a monster in the forest!”

Hearing the commotion, some animals came running.

They asked the little fox, “Where’s the monster?”

The fox pointed at the little monkey and said, “Look, it’s him! He’s the monster!”

The little monkey protested, “I’m not a monster! I’m just a little monkey!”

The animals examined him closely and then said, “You do look like a little monkey, but little monkeys don’t have such long tails, so you must be a monster.”

Saying this, they all ran away because everyone is afraid of monsters—monsters always have special powers, and if you fall into a monster’s hands, it would be terrible.

The little fox followed them and ran away too.

The little monkey stood there sadly, feeling very upset.

He started crying, and the more he cried, the sadder he became. He was still crying when his mother found him and brought him home.

The mother monkey was also very worried. The little monkey had been fine when she left, but now his tail had become so long. What should she do?

Seeking Help from the Crocodile Doctor

A rabbit mother came to visit.

She suggested, “I have an idea. The little monkey should stay at home from now on and only play near the door. That way, no one will see his long tail.”

But the mother monkey said, “Sigh, keeping a child indoors forever isn’t a good solution either.”

Then a kangaroo mother came to visit.

She suggested, “I think you should sew a pouch on the little monkey’s belly and hide his long tail in the pouch. Then no one will see it.”

The mother monkey thought this wasn’t a good idea either.

Next, a pig mother arrived. She suggested, “I think you should tie the tail into many knots. That way, it will be much shorter.”

But the mother monkey didn’t think this was a good solution either.

Calling the Crocodile Doctor

Looking at his long, coiled tail, the little monkey was also quite scared. “Don’t worry,” the mother monkey said, “I’ll call a skilled doctor to help fix your tail.”

The mother monkey made a phone call to the crocodile doctor. Soon, the crocodile doctor arrived.

The crocodile doctor took the little monkey’s temperature and blood pressure.

The little monkey was very frightened. “I don’t want to take any medicine,” he said.

The crocodile doctor replied, “Don’t worry, I won’t give you any medicine.”

The little monkey added, “I don’t want any injections either.”

The crocodile doctor reassured him, “Don’t worry, I won’t give you any injections.”

The mother monkey asked, “If there’s no medicine and no injections, how will you treat him?”

The crocodile doctor replied, “The little monkey doesn’t need medicine or injections. He just needs a small operation.”

“An operation?”

The crocodile doctor opened his mouth wide, showing the mother monkey his sharp teeth. “See? I’ll perform the operation with my mouth. Just one bite, and I’ll snip off the little monkey’s long tail.”

“Wow!” The little monkey screamed in fear.

But the crocodile doctor had already grabbed him and was applying alcohol to his tail, getting ready to operate.

The little monkey struggled, but he couldn’t escape.

Just as the crocodile doctor was about to bite down, the mother monkey suddenly rushed forward and stopped him. “Doctor Crocodile, your mouth is so big. If you bite down, won’t you accidentally bite off the little monkey’s backside too?”

The crocodile doctor hesitated, “Well… that usually doesn’t happen.”

The mother monkey continued, “Even if you don’t bite off too much, what if you make the tail too short? That wouldn’t be good either. It would look like a rabbit’s tail. I think you should make a mark on the tail first and then bite at the mark.”

The clever little monkey quickly added, “Yes, I’ll go get a pen to mark it.”

As soon as the crocodile doctor let go, the little monkey rushed to get a pen.

The mother monkey and the crocodile doctor waited.

But after waiting a long time, the little monkey still hadn’t brought the pen.

The mother monkey went to check and found that the little monkey was nowhere to be seen. The window was open—he had escaped through the window.
