Life skills stories for children

The reason why Little Wolf Lulu wanted a secret treasure cave was simple: having a treasure cave is a very cool thing. It’s as cool as being a king. As cool as being a pirate. As cool as a dragon guarding its treasure.

Yes, a secret treasure cave is much cooler than Little Antelope Robbie’s treasure box, Little Badger Lili’s treasure chest, or Little Wild Boar Ahao’s treasure drawer.

One day, Little Fox Momo came to find Little Wolf Lulu, and she was all excited, talking about how Little Antelope Robbie had shown her his treasure box. Wow! There were quite a few treasures inside! There was a golden feather, a small green whistle, and a beautiful conch shell that held the sound of the sea inside…

It was at that moment, seeing the sparkle in Little Fox Momo’s eyes, that the desire to have a treasure cave was born in Little Wolf Lulu’s heart. He really wanted a treasure cave! He wanted to collect treasures little by little until his treasure cave was full. Then, he would blindfold Little Fox Momo, lead her to his treasure cave, surprise her, and then declare that he would share this treasure cave with her, half and half.

Little Wolf Lulu was not just a dreamer. He loved to fantasize but was also very practical. For a while, whenever he had free time, he would run up the small hill near his home, searching everywhere for a suitable treasure hiding spot. Finally, one day, he found a cave that was not too big and not too small, clean, ventilated, dry, and very hidden—perfect for a treasure cave!

“This is it, Little Wolf Lulu’s treasure cave!” he joyfully declared.

Thus, Little Wolf Lulu had a treasure cave. Of course, it wasn’t a real treasure cave yet, because there weren’t any treasures inside it yet. So, the next thing Little Wolf Lulu had to consider was: what kind of treasures should he put in his treasure cave?

Little Wolf Lulu didn’t really want to collect pretty trinkets like Little Antelope Robbie and the others. He wanted to collect even better treasures. Of course, the best would be pearls or gems or something, but those would have to wait until he grew up and actually became a king or a pirate to start collecting. For now, he thought, he could start by collecting some delicious things!

Yes, delicious things are treasures! Even though they look ordinary, they are very, very precious. Think about it, if there was only one piece of bread left in the world, you couldn’t exchange it for a mountain of gold!

So, Little Wolf Lulu first brought in the big box of chocolates he received for his birthday, which he had been reluctant to eat. Those chocolates were really beautiful! All wrapped in shiny gold paper, placed in a delicate rose-colored box. That box of chocolates looked so luxurious and perfect, it was just right to be the first treasure in his secret treasure cave.

Thus, Little Wolf Lulu’s secret collection began, and all the treasures he collected were simply amazing:

There was a basket of bright red apples. Those apples were so tempting that even a king would drool, even a pirate would want to immediately claim them as his own…

There was a small jar of orange marmalade. That marmalade had the color of sunshine, the sweetness of honey, and exuded a scent that brought happiness…

There was a pile of shiny, plump, and lovable chestnuts…

There was a bag of golden, crispy, and fragrant breadsticks…

The feeling of having secret treasures was so wonderful that whenever Little Wolf Lulu thought of his treasure cave, he couldn’t help but smile, feeling especially content…

But one day, when Little Wolf Lulu came to his treasure cave holding a paper bag of walnuts, he found that all his treasures were gone!

Inside the cave, there were only three skinny little hedgehogs, hurriedly gulping down the last bit of breadsticks.

“That’s—too—much!” Little Wolf Lulu shouted angrily.

“We’re… sorry…” the little hedgehogs stammered, “We’ve been hungry for days and just found this wonderful place…”

“Hungry for days? Why didn’t you go home?” Little Wolf Lulu’s anger subsided halfway.

“We don’t have a home; we’re three little stray hedgehogs,” the little hedgehogs said softly.

“I see,” Little Wolf Lulu said sympathetically, “then I’ll give you this treasure cave. You can treat it as your home.”

As Little Wolf Lulu was about to leave, one of the little hedgehogs suddenly spoke up, “Sorry, can… can we be your treasures?”

“We don’t have parents, we’ve never been anyone’s treasure,” said another little hedgehog.

“Being a little wolf’s treasure must be really cool,” said the third little hedgehog.

Little Wolf Lulu smiled.

“Alright,” Little Wolf Lulu solemnly announced, “from now on, the three little hedgehogs will be the treasures in Little Wolf Lulu’s treasure cave!”

Little Wolf Lulu found some soft leaves and made three little beds for his treasures.

Then he let his treasures lie comfortably on the little beds and gently, very gently, hummed a lullaby.

Soon, his treasures were sweetly asleep.

Little Wolf Lulu tiptoed out of his treasure cave.

He stood at the entrance, listening to his treasures softly snoring inside.

Little Wolf Lulu suddenly felt that his treasure cave was the best treasure cave in the whole world.
