Little Mouse’s Adventure
Little Mouse had always wanted to travel.
“It’s dangerous outside! You might lose your life!” said Mouse Mom, sounding very scary.
Mouse Mom always said things like that, so Little Mouse didn’t dare to travel. He could only wander around his own yard.
One day, a dragonfly flew by and cheerfully called out to Little Mouse, “It’s so lively outside! Come out and play!”
Little Mouse looked back at Mouse Mom, who was giving him a knowing glance.
Then, a butterfly fluttered over, waving her beautiful wings. “Little Mouse, come join the masquerade party!”
Little Mouse was thrilled; he thought he could dress up as a little tiger, and then he wouldn’t be scared. But then Mouse Mom spoke up: “There might be some cats at the masquerade party, and they are our natural enemies!”
After hearing Mouse Mom’s warning, Little Mouse’s excitement faded away.
From a distance, lively sounds echoed, and Little Mouse could only stare blankly over the garden wall.
Little Mouse decided to travel in secret, without letting Mouse Mom know. While Mouse Mom was away, Little Mouse slipped out of the house.
The sky was so blue, the clouds so white, and the air so fresh!
Little Mouse’s eyes were wide open; he looked here and there. He jumped over a small river in front of the house, passed through a grove, and even climbed over a not-so-tall mountain.
Suddenly, he heard a frightening voice from behind, “Catch him! Catch him! Hey, long-tailed creature!”
Oh no, he must have fallen into a trap! Little Mouse’s vision went black, and he collapsed to the ground.
When Little Mouse woke up, he found himself surrounded by curious little animals.
“You’re awake!” said a friendly little cat.
Little Mouse was too scared to look up and trembled as he said, “I didn’t do anything to you; why are you treating me like this?”
“You misunderstood! We didn’t mean to harm you at all,” said a field mouse.
It turned out they were playing a game of cops and robbers, and Little Mouse mistakenly thought they were trying to hurt him.
“It was the little cat who found you; that’s why we woke you up,” said the field mouse. “If it weren’t for her, we might not have noticed you!”
Now that he understood, Little Mouse wasn’t scared anymore. He lifted his head and looked boldly at the little cat.
The little cat smiled at him, “Let’s play a game together!”
Of course, Little Mouse was delighted. It was his first time playing games, and there were so many new friends. His laughter was filled with joy.
As night fell, it was time for Little Mouse to go home. However, in his excitement, he completely forgot the way back.
“Wahhh…” Little Mouse cried sadly, “I forgot the way home! Mom must be worried.”
“I’ll take you home!” said the little cat with a smile.
The night grew darker, but with the little cat by his side, Little Mouse felt much less afraid.
As they walked, Little Mouse thought to himself: actually, the outside world isn’t dangerous at all. If he stayed at home all the time, he wouldn’t even know what danger was—wouldn’t that be scarier? Little Mouse was eager to hurry home and tell Mouse Mom all about his adventure.
