Little Bear and Little Magpie were good friends; they often played together. Little Bear was strong and could help Little Magpie move rocks to find bugs to eat. Little Magpie was clever and had sharp eyes, which helped Little Bear solve problems and come up with ideas.

One day, Mama Bear said to Little Bear, “Little Bear, you’ve grown up. It’s time to do some work for the family!”

Little Bear asked, “What should I do?”

Mama Bear said, “Go water the vegetable garden.”

Little Bear replied, “Okay!” and hurriedly grabbed a bucket and ran off.

When Little Magpie looked closely, she noticed there was a hole in the bucket and quickly called out, “Little Bear, Little Bear, there’s a hole in the bucket. You need to fix it before using it!”

Little Bear said, “It’s okay, I can run fast!” So he ran and ran, but before he reached the field, all the water had leaked out.

Mama Bear said, “You should listen to Little Magpie!”

A few days later, Mama Bear said, “The corn is ripe. Go to the field and harvest the corn!”

Little Bear said, “Okay!” and ran to the field. Seeing the corn had grown well, he happily reached out to pick it.

Little Magpie saw this and quickly called out, “Little Bear, Little Bear, you need a bag to carry the corn.”

Little Bear said, “It’s okay, my arms are long. I can carry the corn in the crook of my arm.”

He picked one, tucked it under his arm, and continued harvesting all day. Finally, when he looked down, he had only collected two ears of corn: one in his hand and one in the crook of his arm.

Mama Bear said, “You should listen to Little Magpie!”

A few days later, Mama Bear said, “We’re out of firewood. Go to the mountain and bring back a load of wood!”

Little Bear said, “Okay!”

This time, Little Bear had learned his lesson. He said, “Let’s discuss it. Besides a big cart, what else do we need to transport the wood?”

Little Magpie said, “We also need an axe and a saw.”

Little Bear added, “And we should bring some ropes to tie up the wood!”

Then, they went to the hillside. Little Bear chopped the wood, and Little Magpie tied it up. Before long, they returned home.

Mama Bear happily said, “When we work together and discuss things, we can get the job done right!”
