Leaves Autumn in the Wind
The leaves were reluctant to leave their mother tree, but autumn had arrived, and they had no choice but to part with her.
A few leaves decided to travel far away because they had heard the birds sing in the summer and knew there was a wonderful world outside that they longed to see.
“Mother, mother, take care of yourself. We are setting off on a journey.” As an autumn breeze blew, these few leaves danced in the wind, spinning like a group of beautiful butterflies, bidding farewell to their mother tree.
The mother tree said nothing, silently offering her blessings in her heart, hoping that her traveling children would achieve their dreams.
The leaves widened their curious eyes, riding the autumn wind as they flew over fields, over mountains, over rivers, and over many places whose names they did not know.
They were so tired. They had flown for several days and nights without rest, and they longed for a place to stop.
As they passed a bird building its nest, one leaf joyfully said, “I’m not flying anymore. I want to become part of this warm nest.”
As they flew over a rushing stream, another leaf excitedly said, “I want to become a boat for little ants on their adventures. Goodbye, everyone.”
Flying over a village, yet another leaf happily said, “Is that the chimney smoke the birds told us about? I’m not flying anymore either.” With that, it floated into an old man’s stove, igniting itself and transforming into a beautiful flame.
One by one, the leaves found the places they wanted to go.
By then, only the last leaf remained. It was bright red, as if the dawn sun were shining upon it.
The autumn wind asked, “Little leaf, where do you want to go?”
“I don’t know yet. I haven’t made up my mind,” the little leaf said shyly. In truth, it still wanted to fly a little longer with the autumn wind. The world was so fascinating, and it wanted to explore more.
In the end, the autumn wind said, “I’m getting tired. I need to rest now.”
The autumn wind stopped, and the little leaf wobbled as it gently floated down from the sky.
It drifted through the window into a child’s study, where the child, sitting at the desk reading, picked it up in surprise. “Where did this beautiful red leaf come from? It’s perfect for a bookmark.”
The child stood up, found a red ribbon from a drawer, and tied it to the leaf’s stem. And so, the little leaf became a bookmark.
The little leaf bookmark accompanied the book-loving child as they read book after book. The world within the books was just as exciting and wonderful as the world outside.
Lying inside the book, the little leaf smelled the scent of ink and said, “The wind has brought me to a truly wonderful place!”
