Kid story about gratitude

A little rabbit went into the forest to pick mushrooms and got lost on the way back. At that moment, a little chick came by and said to her, “I can help you find your way out of the forest!”

The little chick led the rabbit for a while, and they eventually got out of the forest. The rabbit said, “Thank you. I hid an apple under the hillside on the other side of the river when I came here. Come with me, and I’ll treat you to the apple.”

“Alright, thank you!” the chick said happily.

They walked and walked until they reached the riverbank, but were dismayed to find the log bridge across the river was gone. “How do we get across the river now?” the rabbit said anxiously.

At that moment, a little hippopotamus swam to the shore and said, “I can carry you across the river!” “Thank you so much!” the rabbit and the chick said in unison.

The rabbit and the chick sat on the “hippopotamus boat” and crossed the river.

Once ashore, the rabbit said to the little hippopotamus, “I hid an apple under the hillside, and I want to share it with you.”

“Oh, great! Thank you!” the hippopotamus said happily.

Suddenly, the rabbit remembered that she had promised the chick the apple too. Feeling awkward, she asked, “I only have one apple. Who should I give it to?”

“I should eat it, I did the most work! Without me, the rabbit wouldn’t have found her way out of the forest!” the chick said loudly.

“No, I should eat it, I did the most work! Without me, you’d still be stuck on the other side of the river!” the hippopotamus retorted.

“I should eat it, I did the most work!”

“No, I should eat it, I did the most work!”

While the chick and the hippopotamus were arguing, a large rock rolled down from the hillside. A little elephant happened to pass by and quickly used his trunk to hold the rock back. He shouted, “Get out of the way, the rock is going to fall!”

The rabbit, the chick, and the hippopotamus quickly ran away. As soon as the elephant moved, the rock rolled into the river.

The rabbit hurriedly thanked the elephant and then held out the apple, saying, “Thank you for saving our lives. I want to share this apple with you.”

“Seeing others in danger and helping them is what I should do. You should keep the apple for yourself. Goodbye!” said the elephant.

After the elephant left, the chick and the hippopotamus blushed with shame. They said to the rabbit, “We helped you because it was the right thing to do. You should keep the apple for yourself.”

“I have a good idea. We can cut the apple into three pieces, and each of us can have one. That way, we can all enjoy the apple!” the rabbit said. The chick and the hippopotamus both smiled happily.
