Kid Stories: The Singing Slope
This was a barren slope where not even grass grew. The yellow soil was exposed, and the stream that used to flow like a ribbon had dried up, leaving only a sunken trace.
Little Rabbit Yuyu and Little Piggy Cangcang came here.
Yuyu said, “How lonely, there’s not even a sound.”
“Yes, it would be wonderful if there were singing,” Cangcang said.
Yuyu looked at the distant forest, as if understanding something, and whispered a few words into Cangcang’s ear. Cangcang said, “That’s a good idea.”
Yuyu carried a hoe and a bucket, while Cangcang carried a large bundle of saplings on his back.
In no time, neat rows of saplings lined the slope, just like little babies sitting in rows. A breeze blew, and the saplings nodded, greeting the two of them.
They also dressed the slope in a green long skirt—by planting a layer of dense, green grass.
The trees grew lusher, and the grass grew greener.
On the branches, birds sang happily; on the grass, crickets joyfully played their fiddles.
At some point, the spring also gushed out, tinkling like drums.
“The slope is so beautiful, and the songs it sings are so melodious!” Passersby praised sincerely.
Yuyu and Cangcang heard this and felt a sweet joy in their hearts.
