Inspirational Love Stories

They say, Yujia Tu has beautiful calves.

Before I turned twelve, my brother, Yu Zicong, never allowed me to sing. He would point at the moving truck downstairs and say, “Yujia Tu, are you working for the moving company? Are you trying to drive everyone in our neighborhood away?”

I have to thank my dear brother because his insults turned me into a diligent child. But three days before the competition, this diligent child got cold feet. I walked around the playground, distressed, with my hands behind my back. Yu Zicong looked at me, puzzled: “What’s there to be afraid of? It’s not your first time on stage.”

He really didn’t understand me. I wasn’t afraid of singing; I was afraid of those overalls. Sighing, I looked down at myself. Yu Zicong suddenly had a look of realization on his face: “Yujia Tu, don’t you know you have beautiful calves? You’ll look great in those shorts.”

Coming from someone who never complimented me, his eyes now shone with sincerity. So, I bravely wore my first pair of shorts and stood on the big stage in the school auditorium.

The spotlight shone on my pale legs, and then the whole world knew that the beautiful Yujia Tu had a pair of unsightly radish legs.

I want to wear hot pants to scare off that dwarf.

Yu Zicong wanted to introduce me to a boyfriend.

Who is Yu Zicong, you ask? He’s my mom’s informant, an undercover agent, a member of the Central Intelligence Agency. So, I was certain he had bad intentions, probably trying to set me up with a dwarf.

That day, I dressed like this: chiffon doll top, flip-flops, a big bow on my head, and a skull necklace. The most crucial part was that I wore hot pants to fully display my perfect radish-shaped legs. I intended to scare off that dwarf.

Soon, I regretted it immensely because Xu Hanming was quite tall. As he walked over from afar, his gaze never left me. Finally, he politely said to Yu Zicong, “Your sister has a great sense of style.” I touched the bow on my head, and my face turned red.

That day, we went to an island for a BBQ. Because of my strange outfit, I felt uncomfortable throughout. Whenever Xu Hanming’s eyes lowered slightly, I felt like he was staring at my radish legs. So, during the BBQ, I covered my legs with a tablecloth. When I looked down, I discovered the cloth was crawling with ants. I screamed and jumped up. Xu Hanming rushed over to brush the ants off me. As a biology student, he quickly determined that these ants were poisonous.

Because of this unexpected event, we had to cut our trip short.

Her name is Minnie, Mickey’s girlfriend.

I was hospitalized due to the poisonous ants. On the day I was discharged, Xu Hanming came to pick me up. The moment he entered, he saw the doll on my bed and said, “You even brought your Mickey with you to the hospital?”

“It’s Minnie,” I corrected him, grabbing Minnie’s bow. “She’s Mickey’s girlfriend.”

“Oh, it’s Minnie. I hadn’t noticed before.” The huge Minnie blocked his face, but he suddenly reached out and touched the bow on my head. “Yujia Tu, you look a lot like Minnie.”

I examined Minnie’s face. She always stood silently next to Mickey, appearing frequently but always as a secondary character.

On the way back, Xu Hanming treated me to bubble tea. It was the first time I was so close to him, and I was extremely nervous. So, when he asked about my hobbies, I blurted out, “Jigsaw puzzles.”

He was taken aback, then smiled, “I like jigsaw puzzles too!”

Our first date turned into a puzzle assembly event. I didn’t expect that Xu Hanming had also called Yu Zicong. The three of us stared at the two giant puzzles on the floor, unsure of what to do. Eventually, Yu Zicong took out his phone and suggested, “How about I call Du Ling? We can team up and have a competition. She’s probably free now.”

I teased him while munching on sunflower seeds, “Who’s Du Ling? Must be quite charming if you didn’t even pick up your sister from the hospital.” Inadvertently, I spat a seed shell onto Xu Hanming’s face. His usual smiling expression changed immediately. He stuffed Minnie back into my arms and politely said, “I just remembered I have something to do at school. I need to go.”

I was stunned for half a minute. Yu Zicong stuck out his tongue and said, “Forgot to tell you, this guy has a cleanliness fetish.”

Ancient times had Lady Meng Jiang, now we have Yujia Tu.

One weekend afternoon, I called Xu Hanming: “Let’s do a jigsaw puzzle! I just bought a 3D one!”

“Sure, come to my dorm. Your girls’ dorm is too strict; I can’t get in.” His dorm was very quiet, so I could catch even his faint laughter. Excitedly, I carried two big boxes of puzzles and set off. Xu Hanming was already waiting downstairs. He took the puzzles from me. As I followed him upstairs, his friends kept greeting him and giving us meaningful looks. Xu Hanming quickly explained, “This is my classmate’s sister.”

Classmate’s sister? Hearing this label, my heart sank.

Once inside, I dumped the puzzles out on the table. Xu Hanming went next door to invite people to join us, but he came back looking worried: “I went around the whole floor, and everyone’s out on dates.”

His distressed expression showed he really wanted to date. I blinked my big eyes, hoping he’d notice the beauty waiting for him, but his eyes were fixed on the puzzles, swiftly sorting the pieces. “Just the two of us, then. Let’s see who finishes first!”

So, I worked on the Great Wall while he tackled the White House. We worked from 2 PM to 6 PM. When Yu Zicong returned, I was standing on a chair, triumphantly shouting, “I won, I won!” My bold stance scared the girl behind him. Embarrassed, Yu Zicong tried to pretend he didn’t know me, but I enthusiastically called out, “Brother! Aren’t you going to introduce us?”

Blushing, Yu Zicong said, “This is Du Ling.”

“Sister-in-law?”

“Yujia Tu, you haven’t finished your puzzle. Your Great Wall is missing a brick!” Xu Hanming suddenly spoke, his tone a bit harsh. I looked at the pristine puzzle pieces I had meticulously cleaned before coming and realized this wasn’t just about his cleanliness.

Feeling dejected, I sat back down, wanting to cry like Lady Meng Jiang and collapse the entire Great Wall in front of me.

Oh no! Miss Minnie, I think I like you.

Yu Zicong finally confessed that both he and Xu Hanming secretly liked Du Ling for a long time. In the end, Du Ling chose him, and he felt guilty, which is why he desperately tried to set me up with Xu Hanming.

“You think I’m a consolation prize?” I was indignant.

Yu Zicong’s eyes once again shone with sincerity: “I believe my sister is good enough to replace Du Ling. That guy’s really lucky.” Once more, I chose to believe him. With amusement park tickets he gave me, I went to find Xu Hanming, determined to confess my feelings.

On the pirate ship, I decided I’d speak at the highest point, but instead, I shrank down in the seat, screaming. On the roller coaster, I swore to speak during the plunge, but in the midst of the screaming, I cried so hard my fake eyelashes fell off.

Finally, we stood quietly in front of a pile of toys. I randomly grabbed a Minnie headband and put it on, mustering the courage to ask, “Do I look more like Minnie now?”

Before Xu Hanming could respond, someone suddenly snatched his wallet from his jeans and ran off.

Fortunately, I, Yujia Tu, excelled in all areas. I chased the thief out of the amusement park and down two streets without breaking a sweat. The thief, crying, threw down the wallet and ran for his life.

When I returned, Xu Hanming was still standing in the same spot. Feeling aggrieved, I said, “I risked my life while you just stood here enjoying yourself?”

Xu Hanming helplessly spread his hands and pointed at the headband: “You ran off with it. The owner wouldn’t let me leave without paying.”

It dawned on me that I had chased two streets with this childish headband on. Tugging at Minnie on my head, I felt my face heat up. That was nothing compared to what happened next.

Xu Hanming said, “Miss Minnie, can I give you a hug?”

I panicked, “Xu Hanming, think it over. If you hug me, you’ll have to take responsibility.”

Xu Hanming chuckled softly, “Minnie is smart and brave, can sing and run.” Then he suddenly said Mickey’s catchphrase: “Oh no! Miss Minnie, I think I like you a bit.”

Turns out, working hard to be seen as a side character and becoming familiar can lead to being remembered.
