Happy Little Goblin
After finishing an entire book on transformation magic, the little goblin Pika set down the book and decided to give it a try. The spring grass had turned green, and the dandelions and violets were in full bloom. A little grasshopper jumped onto a stalk of foxtail grass.
Ah, little grasshopper, Pika thought, inspired: Let me try my transformation magic on you. Pika silently recited a spell.
Whoosh—Pika transformed into a small sparrow. “Chirp, chirp!” The sound of the sparrow startled the grasshopper so much that it tumbled off the foxtail grass.
How fun! Pika laughed so hard his belly ached! Transformation magic was amazing—it had turned him into a cheerful little goblin.
“Chirp, chirp!” Another sparrow flew by in the sky.
Ha, that one thinks I’m a real sparrow! Pika thought gleefully as he silently recited another spell.
Whoosh—Pika transformed into a big tabby cat.
“Meow!” The cat’s cry sent the sparrow flying like an arrow, nearly pinning itself to a tree.
How fun! Pika laughed so hard he rolled on the ground. Transformation magic was truly wonderful—it had turned him into a lively little goblin.
“Meow!” A white kitten approached the rolling Pika.
Apparently, the white kitten thought Pika was just another cat.
Another silly cat—let me give it a scare! Pika thought to himself as he silently recited another spell.
Whoosh—Pika transformed into a barking little dog.
The white kitten was so frightened that it dashed up a tree and trembled on the branch.
“Oh, little dog, why are you scaring the poor kitten? You’re so naughty!” An old lady picked up Pika.
Hey, don’t mistake me for a dog—I’m an amazing little goblin! Pika thought. Wouldn’t the old lady be afraid of goblins? Especially of a green-faced goblin like me.
“Stop causing trouble and come home with me,” the old lady said gently as she stroked Pika. Her hand was warm, and there was a light scent of jasmine. Pika sniffed deeply and forgot all about reciting the transformation spell.
The old lady carried the little dog home and made chicken patties for him. As the little dog, Pika happily rolled around in front of the old lady, enjoying himself.
