Missing Sweet Potatoes

Grandma Badger had a sweet potato field, and it was harvest season during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The big, red sweet potatoes attracted many animals who came to admire them.

The little wild boar volunteered to help dig up the sweet potatoes, as his mouth and tusks were perfect tools for the job. In just one day, he dug up the entire field of sweet potatoes. Grandma Badger only managed to transport half of them home before it got dark.

She piled up the remaining sweet potatoes, covered them with sweet potato leaves, and planned to transport them home the next morning.

However, the next morning, when Grandma Badger came to the sweet potato field with her basket, she found that half of the sweet potatoes were missing. “Who stole the sweet potatoes I worked so hard to grow?” Grandma Badger angrily called for Detective Bee.

Detective Bee comforted Grandma Badger, saying, “Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to help you get your sweet potatoes back!”

He carefully examined the scene and found that the culprit was very cunning, leaving no footprints or fingerprints. It seemed that he would have to investigate further. He called on Night Owl, who might have witnessed the theft.

Unfortunately, Owl said that he was at home taking care of his sick baby all night and hadn’t stepped outside. While Detective Bee was at a loss, Snail slowly crawled over.

Bee hurriedly asked, “Snail, did you go out last night?”

The timid Snail quickly retracted his head into his shell and said, “No, no, don’t ask me. I didn’t see anything!”

It seemed there was hope. Sometimes, you find what you’re looking for without any effort. Detective Bee secretly smiled to himself. He patted Snail’s shell and said, “Brother, don’t be afraid. I’m just trying to understand the situation. It’s our duty as citizens to uphold justice, right?”

Snail cautiously poked out his head and whispered, “Last night, I saw Little Mouse filling a bag with sweet potatoes in Grandma Badger’s field. Please don’t tell anyone I told you.”

With this information, Detective Bee went to find Little Mouse.

“What? It wasn’t me! We have so much corn at home; why would I steal sweet potatoes?” Little Mouse shouted.

Detective Bee quickly took pictures of the evidence in Little Mouse’s house and showed them to the other animals.

Little Mouse was speechless and obediently returned the sweet potatoes to Grandma Badger.

He was puzzled. The theft the previous night seemed flawless; how did he get caught? Could it have been that night-crawling Snail? But he thought snails didn’t have eyes and used their tentacles to sense their surroundings.

However, who said snails don’t have eyes? Their eyes are actually at the tips of their long tentacles and are quite keen!

As the saying goes, the net of heaven has large meshes, but it lets nothing through. This was absolutely true!

The greedy Little Mouse thought his misdeed would go unnoticed, but he was eventually caught.

Children, it is a virtue not to take anything that belongs to others. If you like something, you can obtain it through your own hard work!
