Fun animal tale: The Newspaper-Loving Lion
Every day after breakfast, the first thing Mr. Lion does is sit under the big tree in his yard and read the day’s newspaper.
However, Mr. Lion has a habit of reading the news out loud.
One day, the Hedgehog brothers were walking past Mr. Lion’s yard and heard him reading the newspaper aloud. They stood by the wall and listened for a long time, finding the news quite interesting.
The Hedgehog brothers loved sharing the news they overheard from Mr. Lion with their friends in the forest.
But whether it was because the Hedgehog brothers’ ears weren’t too sharp or because Mr. Lion sometimes mumbled his words, the news they spread often got distorted.
One day, just as Mr. Lion was about to read the paper, he heard a knock at the door. When he opened it, he saw Little Rabbit standing there. Little Rabbit asked, “Mr. Lion, I heard there’s a two-headed monkey in the forest. Where is it?”
“What? A two-headed monkey? I’ve never heard of such a thing!”
“Well, I heard someone say that you read about it in the newspaper.”
“What? This is getting more and more confusing,” Mr. Lion said. He opened yesterday’s paper, looked through it, and laughed, “Oh, there was a news piece yesterday saying a newborn monkey in the forest has a very big head, almost as big as two normal monkey heads. How did that turn into a two-headed monkey?”
“I’m sorry, I understand now!” Little Rabbit said, then left.
After that, Little Bear, Little Deer, and Little Squirrel all came knocking to ask about the same thing.
Another day, a large group of friends gathered outside Mr. Lion’s yard and asked, “We heard that there was a flash flood twenty miles away. Will the water come here?”
“No, no, that’s not true,” Mr. Lion said, surprised. Then he suddenly realized. He had just been reading a news piece about a flood that had occurred twenty years ago in the forest.
“Someone must have misunderstood what I was reading!” Mr. Lion said with a laugh, pointing at the newspaper in his hand.
“It was the Hedgehog brothers who told us!” Mrs. Fox said angrily.
“It’s not their fault. Maybe they were too far away from me, or perhaps I wasn’t reading clearly enough. It seems that everyone is very interested in the news. So, starting today, I’ll sit outside under the big elm tree and read the newspaper for everyone. How does that sound?”
“That’s great!” everyone cheered together.
From then on, every morning, the Hedgehog brothers would help Mr. Lion move benches and bring him tea. Mr. Lion read the news loudly and clearly, and the news in the paper was delivered to everyone’s ears, word for word…
