frog stories for kids: Mr. Frog Reading the Newspaper
Mr. Frog often wears a neatly pressed suit and white gloves to read the newspaper after lunch. He also likes to drink coffee while reading. On his table sits a cup of coffee, steaming hot and fragrant.
Mr. Frog is reading the “Swamp News” in the middle of the newspaper. It says: “Recently, the plants in the swamp have been growing wildly.” “Oh yes, the grass has even damaged the roof tiles of my house,” says Mr. Frog.
This is a newly arrived newspaper, and it’s so large that it can cover Mr. Frog’s entire body and his house. Mr. Frog holds the newspaper in one hand and reaches for the coffee with the other. However, the newspaper is just too big, and his arms are too short. He tries to grab the coffee from the left side of the newspaper, but he can’t reach it. Then he tries from the right, but still can’t reach it. He tries from above and below, but alas, he can’t reach it at all.
So, Mr. Frog has no choice but to lay the newspaper flat on the ground, stand up, hop around the newspaper in a circle to get to the coffee, take a sip, and then hop back to his seat to continue reading. It’s quite troublesome.
Mr. Frog decides to tear out the “Swamp News” section in the middle of the newspaper, then stretches his hand through the hole to grab the coffee. Just then, Mr. Crocodile, the editor of the newspaper, happens to pass by. He sees an arm sticking out from the middle of the newspaper and exclaims in surprise, “Oh my, the newspaper has grown an arm!” He takes a photo of the scene.
The next day, Mr. Frog reads the newspaper again. He sees this news in the “Swamp News” section: “In the swamp, not only have the plants been growing wildly, but even the newspaper has grown an arm!” Mr. Frog looks at the photo and exclaims, “Huh?” His glasses nearly fall off. “Isn’t that my arm? How did it end up in the newspaper?”
Mr. Frog goes to find Mr. Crocodile, the editor, and says, “That’s not the newspaper’s arm; that’s my arm. I was wearing white gloves at the time.” “But I don’t understand,” says Mr. Crocodile. “How did your arm come out of the middle of the newspaper?” “Well, that’s because I tore a piece out of the middle of the newspaper to make it easier to drink my coffee,” Mr. Frog says, his voice getting quieter and quieter. “How could you do that?” Mr. Crocodile is, of course, upset that a perfectly good newspaper now has a hole in it. “I apologize, but the newspaper is really too big,” Mr. Frog says softly. “It covers both me and my house.”
“Oh, I see.” Mr. Crocodile realizes the newspaper indeed has a problem. He decides to make a smaller newspaper suitable for the little animals to read, while the big newspaper can be for the elephants or lions.
After that, Mr. Frog gets a smaller newspaper that he can read while drinking his coffee.
