Friendship Lessons: Benben Makes Friends

Benben is an adorable little calf, born on a sunny morning when the world was blooming with life. The moment he was born, his little pink head wobbled around, and his big eyes rolled back and forth, making him look incredibly cute. This little calf loved to run around, so his parents gave him a cute name, Benben.

Benben grew up happily day by day and soon became a young calf. He spent his days playing in the meadows and forests. Over time, Benben made friends with Yinyin, a nightingale with a sweet singing voice; Qiqi, an active and playful piglet; and Mengmeng, a rabbit with snow-white fur. After meeting these friends, Benben often played with them. Sometimes, they would run to the forest to listen to Yinyin’s beautiful songs; other times, he would run wildly on the hills with Qiqi. When they were tired, they would lie on the grass and chat with Mengmeng, enjoying their time together.

Days passed, and after a while, Benben noticed that Yinyin had a bad habit of pooping indiscriminately from the trees. If Benben wasn’t careful while standing underneath, he would end up with bird droppings on his head, which made him very upset. Benben decided not to be friends with Yinyin anymore and started avoiding her, choosing only to play with Qiqi and Mengmeng.

However, after some time, Benben discovered that Qiqi had a bad habit too. Qiqi rarely bathed, so he often smelled bad. Whenever he saw a muddy puddle, he would jump right in and roll around, getting himself all dirty, without caring about hygiene. This made Benben very unhappy, and he decided to stop hanging out with Qiqi as well, only playing with Mengmeng.

Soon, Benben was left with only one friend, Mengmeng. They would lie on the grass and chat all day, but after a while, Benben started to feel bored. He wanted Mengmeng to run around and play with him, but Mengmeng was very shy and didn’t like to appear in front of others. She refused Benben’s requests many times. Frustrated, Benben broke off his friendship with Mengmeng too.

Now, the world was quiet. There was no need to worry about Yinyin’s bird droppings, no need to see Qiqi all dirty, and no need to deal with Mengmeng’s shyness. Benben was left alone. He would sometimes run wildly on the hill, sometimes look up at the sky and moo loudly, and other times lower his head to nibble on some grass. Although he felt free, without the company and companionship of friends, Benben started to feel very lonely and bored. Before noon, he dejectedly headed home.

Seeing Benben return with a gloomy face, Mama Cow licked his head gently and asked with concern, “What’s wrong, dear? Why do you look so unhappy?” Benben sighed, “I have no friends to play with. It’s so boring being alone.” Mama Cow asked softly, “Weren’t Yinyin, Qiqi, and Mengmeng your good friends?” Benben replied, frustrated, “Yinyin has a bad habit of pooping anywhere she likes, and once it even landed on my head, so I stopped talking to her. Qiqi never bathes and smells bad, and he loves jumping into dirty puddles. I don’t like him anymore. Mengmeng is always so shy. She never wants to play when I ask her to run around, so I broke up with her too.” After hearing this, Mama Cow said gently, “Benben, every friend has both good and bad qualities. When you interact with others, you should focus on their good qualities and not just their flaws. That way, you’ll make more friends and be happier. Do you understand?” Benben nodded after listening to his mother’s advice.

That afternoon, Benben went to apologize to Yinyin, Qiqi, and Mengmeng, and they became friends again. From then on, Benben learned to focus on others’ good qualities and be more tolerant of their shortcomings. Later on, Benben made even more friends, like Kaka the squirrel, Wangwang the puppy, and Miaomiao the kitten, and he was always very happy and joyful.
