Five little mice set out to find happiness.
They walked and walked until they arrived at Lemon Town.
“Are you just passing by, or do you plan to stay?” asked the smiling mayor of Lemon Town.
“If we find the happiness we’re looking for here, we’ll stay,” the little mice replied.
“So, what are your skills?” the mayor asked again.
“I’m great at growing flowers and taking care of them!” said Little Mouse One-One.
“I’m good at climbing high places, and I’m also skilled at cleaning things!” said Little Mouse Two-Two.
“I can make jam in twenty-six different flavors!” said Little Mouse Three-Three.
“I’m very good at mending and sewing!” said Little Mouse Four-Four.
“I can read!” said Little Mouse Five-Five.
“Very good!” said the mayor, satisfied. “We are in need of a gardener here. The residents always complain that there aren’t enough flowers or scents, so happiness feels scarce too.”
“Then I’ll stay!” said Little Mouse One-One.
And so, Little Mouse One-One stayed in Lemon Town and found his happiness. The four remaining mice continued their search for happiness.
They walked and walked until they arrived at Pineapple Town.
“Are you just passing by, or do you plan to stay?” asked the smiling mayor of Pineapple Town.
“If we find the happiness we’re looking for here, we’ll stay,” the little mice replied.
“So, what are your skills?” the mayor asked again.
“We need someone who can climb up high and polish the stars, as the residents of Pineapple Town love bright stars the most.”
“Then I’ll stay!” said Little Mouse Two-Two.
And so, Little Mouse Two-Two stayed in Pineapple Town and found his happiness.
The three remaining mice continued their search for happiness.
They walked and walked until they arrived at Banana Town.
“Are you just passing by, or do you plan to stay?” asked the smiling mayor of Banana Town.
“If we find the happiness we’re looking for here, we’ll stay,” the little mice replied.
“So, what are your skills?” the mayor asked again.
“I can make jam in twenty-six different flavors!” said Little Mouse Three-Three.
“I’m very good at mending and sewing!” said Little Mouse Four-Four.
“I can read!” said Little Mouse Five-Five.
“Very good!” said the mayor, satisfied. “The residents of Banana Town are all sweet tooths. A jam maker will be warmly welcomed here!”
“Then I’ll stay!” said Little Mouse Three-Three.
And so, Little Mouse Three-Three stayed in Banana Town and found his happiness.
The two remaining mice continued their search for happiness.
They walked and walked until they arrived at Tomato Town.
“Are you just passing by, or do you plan to stay?” asked the smiling mayor of Tomato Town.
“If we find the happiness we’re looking for here, we’ll stay,” the little mice replied.
“So, what are your skills?” the mayor asked again.
“I’m very good at mending and sewing!” said Little Mouse Four-Four.
“I can read!” said Little Mouse Five-Five.
“Very good!” said the mayor, satisfied. “All the residents of Tomato Town are plump and love to laugh heartily, so they often burst their clothes and always need mending and sewing.”
“Then I’ll stay!” said Little Mouse Four-Four.
And so, Little Mouse Four-Four stayed in Tomato Town and found his happiness.
One little mouse continued searching for happiness.
He walked and walked, passing through many places, but nowhere needed a little mouse who could read.
Little Mouse Five-Five wasn’t discouraged at all. He believed that being able to read was a magical skill that would surely help him find happiness.
One day, Five-Five discovered a beautiful gate in the forest. He pushed the gate open and entered, only to find himself in a vast, empty space!
There was nothing there except for a book lying quietly on the ground.
Five-Five happily opened the book. He didn’t know that this was a magic book.
This book was very strange; Five-Five could barely recognize any of the words inside. But he patiently flipped through the book from beginning to end, and eventually, he found a word he recognized.
“Beauty!” Five-Five read aloud, proudly.
As soon as he finished speaking, beautiful flowers bloomed all around him.
“Fragrance!”
As soon as he finished speaking, all the flowers began to emit a delightful fragrance.
“Warmth!”
As soon as he finished speaking, a small thatched cottage appeared in the middle of the field of flowers, and it looked very warm and cozy.
“Love!”
As soon as he finished speaking, the door of the thatched cottage opened, and a mouse girl wearing a floral apron appeared at the door, smiling and waving at Five-Five.
Five-Five continued flipping through the magic book, but there were no more words he recognized.
But that was enough. Five-Five said happily.
And so, Five-Five stayed in this place full of fragrance, beauty, warmth, and love, and found his happiness.
