Family life and love

She and he had another argument. The reason was simple: he forgot to buy MSG on his way home for lunch. They had used up all the MSG at breakfast, and she had repeatedly reminded him to buy some before they both left for work.

When he walked in, she was cooking. The first dish was waiting for the MSG to be added. Seeing him come in empty-handed, her temper flared up. She loudly scolded him, “How could you forget something like this? Don’t you want to eat? You’re really annoying!”

He saw her busy in the kitchen and suddenly remembered the MSG. Initially, he thought about getting some from the store next to his dorm. However, her harsh words made him throw his briefcase onto the sofa and retort, “You’re really uncivilized. Making a big deal out of such a small thing, are you going through menopause?” Then he went to play on the computer in the study.

Her discomfort only grew after he said that. She threw the spatula down, turned off the gas stove, and sat angrily on the sofa, refusing to continue cooking.

Their child was in high school and stayed in a dormitory, coming home only on Saturday nights and returning to school on Sunday nights. Although they missed their child, they believed that independence was necessary for an only child. When their child was home, she would cook delicious meals, and he would watch sports games with their child. They had gotten through it like this.

Usually, it was just the two of them at home, and they cared a lot about their quality of life. For example, unless they had social engagements, they cooked their own meals at home and seldom settled for anything less.

However, recently she found him increasingly unreasonable. He was no longer as tolerant and considerate as before; he would forget things and was no longer as thoughtful. He became impatient when she nagged. But with their child, he was still cheerful and friendly, like a buddy.

He also noticed that she was no longer as gentle and understanding. She would get angry easily and seldom gave him any chance to explain. However, she still cared for their child as always, asking about their well-being.

She fell asleep on the sofa while thinking about all this. When she woke up, she found a small blanket draped over her, and her heart warmed. She quickly got up.

When she walked to the dining room, there were already two dishes and a soup on the table, and he was coming out of the kitchen with two bowls of rice.

Seeing her, he smiled and said, “I was just about to call you for dinner. Go wash up and come over.”

She realized that while she was sleeping, he had not only bought the MSG but also spent a lot of time cooking in the kitchen. This was no small feat for someone who didn’t particularly enjoy cooking, and she felt a surge of guilt.

He acted as if nothing had happened, placing a large serving of stir-fried pork with chili into her bowl. “Try my cooking. Eat more; you’ve lost weight recently.”

Her eyes became misty. She began to blame herself for being so petty. Wasn’t it just forgetting to buy MSG? Why did she have to criticize him? Couldn’t he just go back and buy it?

Seeing this, he gently sat beside her, hugged her, and blamed himself. “Honey, I’m sorry! It was my fault, but I yelled at you. That’s not how a man should behave!”

Her tears finally flowed, and a long-lost sense of warmth filled her heart, melting an icy barrier within her.

She sincerely admitted, “I don’t regret marrying you. Maybe it’s because women at my age feel a sense of loss and want to find confidence by picking on you, not realizing that I’m pushing happiness and joy away.”

Listening to her heartfelt words, he tightly held her hand, seeing the gentleness return to her eyes. His heart warmed, and he said emotionally, “It’s my fault for not understanding your feelings in time. You’ve worked so hard, and I’ve always been at odds with you. From now on, watch my actions!”

She threw herself into his arms, repeatedly saying, “Thank you! Thank you, my husband! It’s my fault!”

He lovingly cupped her tear-streaked face, and she saw his eyes full of deep affection and focus, just like before.

Right and wrong intertwined into understanding and emotion over time. He and she quietly embraced, creating the most touching scene.
