Fairy tales with animals

A new resident moved to the small town: Mr. Mole. Every time he went out, he always wore a neatly pressed suit, big dark sunglasses, and carried a small black umbrella.

From his attire and demeanor, Mr. Mole was every bit a gentleman of considerable elegance. So, whenever the townsfolk saw him, they would warmly greet him, “Hello, Mr. Mole!” But each time, Mr. Mole would just wrinkle his little nose and simply reply, “Hello!”

As time went by, the townspeople started to have some complaints:

“He never takes the initiative to greet us!”

“Carrying an umbrella on a sunny day, what a show-off.”

“It’s really annoying to see!”

One evening, Mr. Mole’s little black umbrella, which he had left by the door, went missing.

For the next several days, the townspeople didn’t see Mr. Mole. Perhaps, Mr. Mole had quietly left the town.

Just as the townspeople were almost forgetting about Mr. Mole, a sudden heavy rainstorm hit. The gloomy sky seemed to press down, and large raindrops pounded the ground. The residents hurriedly took shelter in their cozy homes.

Frog the delivery boy, with a big lotus leaf over his head, was still busy delivering the last few packages. As he passed by Mr. Mole’s house, he suddenly stopped.

In the rain, he saw a blurry figure sitting on the steps of Mr. Mole’s house, face up, unprotected, completely exposed to the heavy rain.

Yes, it was Mr. Mole, the very Mr. Mole who had been missing for a long time.

“Mr. Mole, quickly go inside, you’ll catch a cold like this!” Frog hurriedly stepped forward, using the big lotus leaf to shield Mr. Mole from the rain.

“I love the sky…” Mr. Mole suddenly spoke, “It’s the only time I can look up at the sky.”

“But it’s raining now, on sunny days you can see the real sky.” Frog advised.

“I can’t look at the sky on sunny days!” Mr. Mole sighed and lowered his head, “My eyes are sensitive to light; I’m practically blind in daylight, only able to hide in dark places.”

“But we often see you during the day…”

“Yes, I long to walk under the sky. But every time I go out, I can only wear sunglasses and hide under a black umbrella, trying my best to avoid the sky! Only at night and in weather like this can I look at the sky without any cover!”

Frog was stunned! No wonder Mr. Mole hadn’t been out for days; it was because his light-blocking black umbrella was missing.

Early the next morning, the missing little black umbrella magically reappeared at Mr. Mole’s doorstep.

Mr. Mole could go out again with his little black umbrella. The townspeople, seeing him, greeted from afar, “Hello, Mr. Mole!”
