fairy tale for Kid: The Great Detective in the Forest
Lili, the hound, is very clever and has learned a lot of scientific knowledge, making it a famous detective in the forest. The thieves and robbers in the forest both hate and fear it.
One day, Aunt Hen came to file a complaint. Her precious son, Little Yellow Feather, went missing last night. Lili said to its assistant, the little monkey Naonao, “Quick, we must set off immediately to catch the chicken thief!” They hopped on a motorcycle and sped off like the wind.
In front of the chicken coop, Naonao saw fox footprints. Lili also discovered weasel footprints. Lili told the little monkey to call both the fox and the weasel. Lili loudly asked, “Did you come here today?” Both the fox and the weasel admitted to having been there. “So, who stole Little Yellow Feather?” Lili’s eyes flashed with green light.
“It wasn’t me, it wasn’t me!” said the weasel. “Since you educated me last time, I haven’t stolen any more chickens; I only eat field mice now.”
The fox hurriedly wagged its tail, “It wasn’t me either. Ever since you scolded me last time, I have been eating vegetarian.”
Suddenly, Naonao noticed there were bloodstains on their feet and asked, “What’s this all about?” “Ah, my foot was itchy, and I scratched it,” the fox said with a laugh. “I… I… got poked by a tree branch,” the weasel added. Lili said nothing. Instead, he took a microscope out of his bag and looked at the bloodstains on the fox and weasel’s feet for a while, then angrily said, “So, the culprit is the fox!” Hearing this, the fox got scared and tried to run away.
Fortunately, Naonao had already climbed a tree and threw down a big net, catching the fox. At this moment, the weasel knelt down with a thud, bowed to Lili, and said, “Thank you!” and tried to sneak away. Naonao stopped the weasel and said to Lili, “We can’t just let the weasel go! How do you know it was the fox who did it?” Lili replied, “Take a look at the bloodstains under the microscope and you’ll understand!”
Naonao took the microscope and examined the bloodstains on the fox’s foot. The red blood cells in the blood looked like little olives, with a nucleus in the middle. Then he looked at the bloodstains on the weasel’s foot. Oh! The red blood cells were round and had no nucleus. Naonao wanted to ask more, but Lili explained, “Birds and chickens have olive-shaped red blood cells; mammals like foxes, weasels, pigs, and cows have round red blood cells.”
Naonao, impressed, said to Lili, “You truly are a great detective, with so much knowledge in your head.”
