Educational Stories for Kids

The post office recently hired two new mail carriers: Giraffe and Little White Rabbit.

The houses on West Street are by the river, small and low, home to Turtle, Ant, Little Mouse… Mail carrier Giraffe delivers letters, lowering his head to find each house number.

The houses on East Street are on the hillside, tall and large, home to Monkey, Squirrel, Crow… Mail carrier Little White Rabbit delivers letters, looking up and shouting for each household.

“Ah!” Giraffe rubs his neck and says, “Lowering my head to find house numbers makes my neck sore.”

“Oh dear!” Little White Rabbit points to his throat and says, “Looking up and shouting loudly has made my throat hoarse.”

“Working like this every day is exhausting!” They complain, feeling more and more upset as they talk.

The next day, they went to deliver letters again. There were particularly many letters today, and both their bikes had bulging mailbags hanging in the front and back.

Giraffe rode to East Street, delivering letters into the high windows.

Little White Rabbit rode to West Street, delivering letters into the low doorways.

Quickly, they finished delivering all the letters and returned to the post office together, elated.

“Delivering letters was so easy today,” Giraffe said happily. “If I had to deliver so many letters to West Street, I’d probably have strained my neck.”

“If I had to deliver so many letters to East Street, I wouldn’t have finished by nightfall,” said Little White Rabbit.

“But we really should thank Panda the most. It’s all thanks to his great idea,” Giraffe and Little White Rabbit said in unison, looking at each other.

Panda, embarrassed, touched his head and quickly said, “No need to thank me, we’re all good friends, and helping each other is what we should do.”
