Due to having parasites on its body, the hippo was always itchy. Recently, the number of parasites on the hippo had increased so much that it was unbearable for the hippo, so it went to see Doctor Elephant.

“Doctor Elephant, can you use your long trunk to wash the parasites off my body?” the hippo said pitifully.

Without hesitation, Doctor Elephant sucked up a trunkful of water and splashed it onto the hippo with a loud “whoosh.” The hippo felt much better immediately. However, after a short while, the hippo started itching again. It pitifully kicked its four chubby legs and rolled around on the ground.

Doctor Elephant helplessly said, “Those parasites are too cunning; I can’t get rid of them.” The hippo, in a panic, started to cry loudly. Doctor Elephant scratched his head and suddenly exclaimed, “That’s right! My assistant, the oxpecker, can help you!” Saying this, Doctor Elephant ran into the forest and brought the oxpecker over.

The oxpecker hopped onto the hippo’s back and used its thin, sharp beak to peck out the parasites one by one. Gradually, the hippo felt extremely comfortable. “Thank you, oxpecker!”

Doctor Elephant cleared his throat and said, “Although the oxpecker can help you clean the parasites, it is the private doctor of the rhinoceros.” The hippo was troubled and asked, “What should I do then?” The oxpecker said, “Don’t worry, hippo. I will ask the wattled starling and my relatives to come and help.”

From then on, we often saw a few small birds perched on the hippo. Sometimes they were oxpeckers, sometimes they were wattled starlings. The hippo was never itchy again, and the birds had full bellies. Everyone in the forest was very happy.
