Classic School Love Story 2

The rain in Green City arrived quietly and silently. After a while, it soaked through Su Xiaotang’s thin clothes.

This was something Su Xiaotang, who had just transferred to Chang’an High School, hadn’t anticipated. Seeing that the door of the Sixth Building was open, she quickly rushed inside. As she was tidying up her somewhat disheveled clothes at the stairwell corner, she heard the melodious sound of a piano coming from the end of the hallway.

Su Xiaotang followed the sound of the piano and, through the glass window on the door, saw a tall, slender boy playing the piano with great concentration. His graceful movements and the beautiful music filled the rainy day with a faint sadness. Su Xiaotang leaned against the wall, quietly listening, and unknowingly became immersed in the music.

She didn’t know when the music stopped, nor did she know when the door opened. When she came to her senses, the boy’s bright eyes were already fixed on her face, which showed a mix of sadness and sudden surprise. After a moment of panic, Su Xiaotang lowered her head, trying to collect her emotions, but everything still seemed abrupt and clumsy.

The boy, seeing her nervously fidgeting with her skirt, smiled, “No need to be nervous. Come in and sit. The rain is getting heavier outside; you can’t go back for a while. By the way, my name is Qingyin.”

Su Xiaotang didn’t say much, just smiled lightly and walked in to sit on a chair by the piano.

Qingyin didn’t continue playing the piano but used his phone to play some music. It was still some classic piano pieces. Qingyin chatted with Su Xiaotang about many things—their classes, their friends, their hobbies…

When the first ray of sunlight broke through the clouds and shone on the floor, Su Xiaotang remembered that she had agreed to have dinner with a friend. She hurriedly said goodbye to Qingyin but heard him say, “Feel free to come again and listen to my playing.”

Su Xiaotang smiled, “I don’t understand it; I’m afraid I’ll waste your music.”

Qingyin didn’t mind, “It’s nice just to sit and chat.”

Su Xiaotang readily agreed, “Alright.”

The next time she went to the piano room in the Sixth Building was ten days later. Su Xiaotang missed Qingyin’s beautiful piano music and his graceful posture and even wanted to try playing the piano herself.

They chatted a lot again, both very happy. During a break, Su Xiaotang couldn’t help but press a few keys on the piano. Qingyin softly said, “Xiaotang, do you want to give it a try?”

Before Su Xiaotang could respond, Qingyin had already come forward, wrapping his long arms around her, placing his fair hands on the back of hers. As their fingertips danced, the piano sound began to flow, not too many flaws.

Su Xiaotang felt a bit resistant inside and wanted to move her fingers away from the keys, but Qingyin, still immersed, held her hands and played. Sixteen-year-old Su Xiaotang smelled the scent of Qingyin’s shower gel and felt his breath brush past her hair, warm and ticklish.

At some moment, Su Xiaotang felt like she was in a dream, everything was so beautiful, giving her an unprecedented thrill. That kind of teenage budding feeling finally began to stir in the soil of her heart.

So much so that later, every afternoon after school, Su Xiaotang would go to the piano room in the Sixth Building to chat with Qingyin. When in a good mood, she would also play the piano. Qingyin couldn’t help but say that Su Xiaotang had a great talent for playing the piano. Su Xiaotang would just smile lightly—now, with Qingyin’s company, she no longer felt so lonely.

Later, Qingyin left Chang’an High School with his parents, leaving a key for her through someone. Su Xiaotang took it in her palm, cool, then walked alone to the piano room. Looking at the empty room, she thought of the bits and pieces with Qingyin and sat down at the piano, pressing the keys one by one.

It was “Kiss The Rain.” When Qingyin first met her, he played this piece. Su Xiaotang loved the beautifully sad lyrics of this piece and its turbulent melody. Although she had been able to play this piece on the piano long ago, she preferred to have Qingyin teach her a few more times.

Qingyin never came back, and soon Su Xiaotang was about to graduate from high school. After taking the group photo, Su Xiaotang received a letter. She stared at the handwriting on the envelope, quickly tore it open, and read it, then went to the piano room in the Sixth Building again. Once again, like many days before, she played that song “Kiss The Rain” skillfully and sadly.

In the letter, Qingyin said that when he had come to Chang’an High School to look for her, he had heard her play in the piano room of the Sixth Building and learned that she had deceived him with her girlish innocence. But he understood her because this piano room was known only to them. And here, it held two innocent hearts.

“Yes, this piano room is known only to you and me, but what a beautiful and sad thing this is!” Su Xiaotang sighed softly. She didn’t know when tears fell from her eyes, landing on the piano keys with a clear sound.
