Children’s story about geckos
One day, a little gecko was running, and a little red horse snorted and said to it, “Your body is so dark, your feet look like chicken claws, and your tail is thin and long. How ugly!”
Hearing this, the little gecko was extremely sad. After returning home, it told its mother what the little red horse had said. After listening, the gecko’s mother thought for a moment and then said, “Child, tomorrow you should come with me to the humans’ room!”
The next night, the little gecko and its mother crawled into the humans’ room. They crawled and crawled for a long time.
The little gecko worriedly asked its mother, “What will we do if we get hungry after crawling for so long?” The mother said, “Our black skin can protect us and also help us catch food. We just need to hide in the dark, and when mosquitoes fly by, we can catch them. There are enough mosquitoes here for us to have a full meal.”
The mother then pointed to the smooth glass beneath their feet and said to the little gecko, “Thanks to the many ridged membranes on our fingers and toes, we can run freely on walls or ceilings. Even on smooth glass, we won’t slip.”
As she was speaking, they heard a “meow” – a cat had arrived and bit the little gecko’s tail. The little gecko was terrified. The mother shouted, “Quick, break off your tail!” The little gecko crawled forward with all its might, and its tail broke off, allowing it to successfully escape the cat’s clutches. The mother said, “It’s okay if the tail breaks off, it will grow back.”
The little gecko’s journey ended, and it thought, “I actually have many advantages. The color of my skin, my feet, and my tail all have great uses. I should feel proud of myself!”
