Children’s stories about animals

Hippo Mud’s best friend is named Little Mud, and they have many common interests. For example, they both enjoy fishing, sitting by the river to watch the sunset, drinking fish soup, and eating walnut snacks.

Mud and Little Mud met while chatting online and have never seen each other in person. They decided to meet at Little Mud’s home—No. 21, Down the Corner Alley, Old Zhaobi Street, Zhongshan Road, Xingsha City.

Mud lives in the suburbs, which takes quite some time to get to the city. Although he set out right after lunch, it was already dark, and the streetlights were on by the time he arrived in Xingsha City. Mud got off the bus and had to ask three different people before finally finding Down the Corner Alley, Old Zhaobi Street.

Mud’s pond at home is large, with wide fields and riverbanks nearby, so he is used to walking around like a tank, barreling through obstacles. But he found that Little Mud’s Down the Corner Alley was really too narrow. He thought, if we wanted to take a walk after dinner, we might completely block this alley.

Mud searched for a long time in the alley but still couldn’t find Little Mud’s home at No. 21.

Little Mud had been busy preparing all day, ever since early morning, for Mud’s visit. Now, the streetlights were on, but Mud still hadn’t arrived.

Little Mud called Mud: “Mud, why haven’t you arrived yet?”

“I’ve been here for a while, but I stretched my neck and stood on tiptoe, and I still couldn’t find your home!”

“You need to look down; I live in a basement!” said Little Mud.

Mud then looked down. At the corner, he indeed saw a small door, and around the corner, there was a small balcony. Warm light was coming through the door and balcony. He couldn’t see things clearly inside, so Mud took out a magnifying glass to look closely. He saw candles lit inside, a neat tablecloth on the table, steaming fish soup, and walnut snacks. A little mouse was sitting at the table, talking on the phone: “Can you see me?”

“I see you now! It turns out you’re not a hippo, you’re a little mouse!” said Mud.

“Hippo? What a joke!” said Little Mud, “Hurry up and come in!”

“I can’t come in! I can only see you from your balcony!” said Mud.

Little Mud immediately walked out onto the balcony and saw a giant figure standing outside—

Little Mud screamed, “Are you Mud? How come Mud is a hippo! I thought you were a little mouse like me!”

Mud and Little Mud talked and dined together from opposite sides of the balcony. Although the fish soup was only enough to wet Mud’s large mouth, and the walnut snacks weren’t enough to fill the gaps in Mud’s teeth, Mud still felt that this was the best fish soup and snacks he had ever had.

After dinner, they took a walk under the streetlights together. During the walk, Mud carried Little Mud on his shoulder, so Little Mud hardly took up any space, and no traffic jam occurred in Down the Corner Alley, Old Zhaobi Street.
