Children’s bedtime story

One day, the weather was warm and sunny. A little rabbit and a little dog each carried baskets full of food and went out for a picnic. Suddenly, they heard a strange snoring sound and quickly stopped to listen carefully.

“It sounds like a giant. We should be careful,” the little rabbit said nervously, moving closer to the little dog. The little dog tiptoed towards the direction the sound was coming from.

Soon, a wooden house appeared in front of the little dog. The house was swaying from side to side, and the strange snoring sound was coming from inside it.

“Ah! A singing wooden house. Just like in the fairy tales,” the little rabbit whispered to the little dog, who was following closely behind. They carefully approached the house, opened the door, and went inside. They saw a large hippopotamus lying on the bed, snoring with its nostrils flaring. Every time the nostrils flared, a snoring sound came out.

“It seems like a monster is hiding in the hippopotamus’s nose,” the little rabbit said. The little dog leaned close to the hippopotamus’s nose to look inside. When the snoring sound came again, a powerful gust of air blew the little dog high into the air, hitting the ceiling with a thud and falling heavily to the ground.

“The monster hit me!” the little dog cried, scrambling up and running out with the little rabbit as fast as they could. They ran until they were far away from the wooden house, then finally stopped. When they looked back, they were almost scared to death. The hippopotamus was carrying their forgotten baskets and was striding towards them. The little dog and the little rabbit screamed and started running again, wishing they could fly away. But of course, the hippopotamus soon caught up with them.

“I can’t seem to stop snoring when I sleep, so many friends have left me, and I’m left living alone in the wooden house,” the hippopotamus said with red eyes.

“That’s quite sad,” the little dog said.

The little rabbit nodded, “You don’t snore on purpose, so it’s not your fault.”

The hippopotamus smiled happily and invited the little dog and the little rabbit to the wooden house as guests. They ate delicious food together, and laughter constantly came from the wooden house.

A little bird flew by, saw the swaying wooden house, and heard the laughter, then flew off to tell everyone, “There’s a singing wooden house in the forest!”

Hearing the news, all the animals ran to the wooden house. They sang and danced inside the house.

“I’m the happiest!” the hippopotamus, as the host, said to everyone it met.
