Children Stories: The Foolish Wolf Protects the Bird’s Nest
One day, a strong wind blew and heavy rain fell in the forest. The foolish wolf thought of the little birds in the tree outside his door. He took a small flower umbrella, climbed up the tree, and sat on the branch, holding the umbrella over the bird’s nest. The wind blew all night, and the rain fell all night. The foolish wolf sat on the branch all night as well.
The next day, when the sun rose and dried the dewdrops on the leaves, the little bird woke up. The little bird asked the foolish wolf, “Why are you sitting here holding an umbrella?” The foolish wolf replied, “Last night, there was a strong wind and heavy rain. I climbed up the tree to shield you from the rain.”
The little bird laughed and said, “My house is not as fragile as you think. If you don’t believe me, go down and shake the tree.”
The foolish wolf shook the tree hard, making it sway back and forth, but the bird’s nest remained firmly on the tree.
A few days later, the little bird told the foolish wolf that she was going to be a mother. The foolish wolf climbed up the tree and was shocked to see the eggs. He said, “Your babies don’t look like you at all!” The little bird laughed and said, “I haven’t hatched them yet! When they are hatched, they will look like me.”
A few more days passed, and the little birds grew up. Autumn was approaching, and it was time for the little birds to fly south. The foolish wolf didn’t want the little birds to leave. The little bird said, “Only in the south are there green leaves and red fruits.”
The mother bird flew away with the little birds.
The foolish wolf then remembered the drawing brush under his bed. He took it out and drew a small tree on the wall, full of round green leaves and sweet little red fruits.
The foolish wolf took the bird’s nest from the tree and hung it on the wall.
Every day, the foolish wolf looked forward to the arrival of spring, hoping that the mother bird would bring the little birds back to live in his home.
