childhood education story: The Children of Dreamland

In a faraway place, there is a land called Dreamland. The children of Dreamland live in extreme comfort, and they don’t have to do a single chore. Their parents always say, “You only need to study well!”

To avoid interrupting his son’s reading, the father always ties his son’s shoelaces; to let her daughter practice piano a bit more, the mother personally feeds her daughter with a spoon.

The children of Dreamland are truly impressive: here, two-year-olds can do calligraphy and draw pictures; three-year-olds can sing, dance, and even use a computer; four-year-olds can play ninety-nine different musical instruments… On Earth, children only start school at six and a half, but in Dreamland, six-and-a-half-year-olds have already graduated from university.

These university graduates have acquired a lot of knowledge, but they just haven’t learned how to do any chores.

Year after year went by, and finally one day, all the parents in Dreamland grew old and passed away.

From then on, no one on the island knew how to tie shoelaces or use a spoon… How can you walk if you can’t tie your shoelaces? How can you eat if you can’t use a spoon? There was no other way, so the king had to send people to the outside world to invite teachers.

Soon, the teachers were invited. Who were these teachers? It turned out they were kindergarten children! They had older class kids, middle class kids, and younger class kids.

Despite being young, they could do many things! The classes began, and the younger class children taught the people of Dreamland how to eat with a spoon; the middle class children taught them how to tie shoelaces and button clothes; the older class children taught them how to fold blankets, sweep the floor, and wash dishes… The people of Dreamland learned many skills from the kindergarten children and also understood a principle: children should learn to do their own tasks from a young age!

Little friends, can you do these simple tasks yourself? We must develop the good habit of doing our own tasks from a young age!
