Chatter Badger and Humming Bear Go Fishing

Chatter Badger loved to talk, chattering away from morning till night without stopping. Humming Bear, on the other hand, didn’t like to talk and preferred to hum songs quietly by himself.

Despite their different personalities, they were good friends.

One day, Chatter Badger and Humming Bear planned to go fishing by the river.

They cast their fishing rods towards the middle of the river and kept an eye on the bobbers floating on the water.

Chatter Badger started chattering away with one story after another, but Humming Bear didn’t respond at all.

After fishing for a long time without catching anything, Humming Bear said, “Look at you, chattering non-stop. You’ve scared all the fish away!”

Just then, Humming Bear’s bobber moved. He lifted his fishing rod and caught a big fish.

“Who said I scared the fish away? Look, here’s a fish that likes to listen to my stories!”

Chatter Badger looked sympathetically at the fish and said, “Did you come here because you love listening to my stories?” The fish’s mouth opened and closed, as if saying, “Yes, yes…”

Humming Bear wanted to put the fish into the fish basket.

The fish’s mouth kept moving, and Chatter Badger said, “Poor thing, a fish that loves stories.”

Chatter Badger pleaded with Humming Bear, “This fish is my friend. Please let it go, and I’ll thank you!”

Humming Bear couldn’t refuse his old friend’s request, so he released the fish.

The two friends started fishing again.

To catch a fish himself, Chatter Badger focused on the bobber and stopped chattering. But this time, Humming Bear couldn’t help but hum to himself, “Water waves, water waves, li li, hiding little fish, little fish, li li…”

After fishing for a long time without catching anything, Chatter Badger couldn’t hold back, “Li li what? You’ve scared all the fish away with your singing!”

Just then, Chatter Badger’s bobber moved. He lifted his fishing rod, and a fish was flapping on the hook.

“Poor thing, this must also be a fish that loves humming. My humming attracted it.”

Chatter Badger took the fish off the hook, and its mouth kept moving, as if singing its last song.

Humming Bear couldn’t help but say to Chatter Badger, “I must ask you, please release my humming friend!”

Chatter Badger looked at his old friend and, without saying a word, put the fish back into the river.

After that, the two friends didn’t catch any more fish.

As they walked home with their fishing rods and an empty fish basket, they felt very happy—

Chatter Badger continued telling his chattering stories, and Humming Bear softly hummed his beloved songs…
