Cat Stories: A Little Cat That Changes Colors

The little cat is so pretty: round eyes, a long tail, whiskers that twitch, ears that move, and a coat of white fur with yellow spots.

Mom especially likes the little cat, but he’s not well-behaved at all. He doesn’t listen to his mother, loves to roll on the ground, and flips on the grass, always getting his beautiful body dirty. Mom spends all day licking him clean, but never manages to get him completely spotless.

One day, the little cat went out to play in the yard. He saw a tall round iron barrel by the wall. The little cat looked at it, sniffed it, but couldn’t figure out what it was. He jumped up with all his might, landing on the edge of the barrel, and looked down. Oh, it was a barrel of green paint!

The little cat thought: Green is so beautiful, even better than my colorful coat. I want to wear green!

Whether the green paint could dye his coat or not, the little cat didn’t care. He closed his eyes tightly and leaped in!

“Meow—meow—” He couldn’t make a sound and couldn’t breathe. He clawed frantically, finally grabbing the edge of the barrel, and slowly climbed out.

The little cat jumped off the barrel, oh no, his nose was clogged! He quickly blew his nose.

Oh no, his ears were blocked! He quickly dug at his ears.

The little cat had turned into a little green cat, with only his eyes still bright.

The little green cat was a bit scared seeing his green body. He was afraid his mother would scold him, so he rolled around on the yellow dirt, trying to get the green paint off. Unexpectedly, the paint was so sticky, and as he rolled, he got covered in dirt. The little green cat turned into a little yellow cat.

The little yellow cat walked along, wondering if his mother would be angry when he got home. As he walked, he saw a long old chimney lying under the steps, dark inside. The little cat stood still, looking at it: “This looks just like a tunnel for trains. I want to crawl through it!”

He crawled into the chimney, pushing his way through, meowing, “Meow! Meow! Choo-choo! Choo-choo! Meow—”

After a lot of effort, the little yellow cat crawled out of the chimney. He was so happy, shouting, “I made it through the tunnel! I made it through the tunnel!”

But when he looked, he saw he was covered in black soot. The little yellow cat had turned into a little black cat.

The little black cat went home, ran into the kitchen, and jumped onto the stove. He saw a big flour barrel. The white flour looked like cotton, like snowflakes, so fun!

The little black cat thought: I’ll play a little longer. Anyway, my coat is already dirty, and Mom will scold me. I might as well play a little more!

The little black cat pressed his paws and jumped into the flour barrel. He rolled around, flour flying everywhere, choking him. He had to crawl out with his eyes closed, jumped to the ground, and fell on his bottom.

Hey, he was covered in white flour. The little black cat had turned into a little white cat!

Just then, Mom saw him and asked, “Whose little cat are you, and what are you doing here?”

The little white cat cried, “Mom, it’s me! Mom, it’s me! Meow—”

Mom was angry, saying, “This child is so naughty! So dirty, how can I lick you clean? I’ll rinse you with water!”

Mom took the little white cat to the faucet, whoosh—rinsed the little cat.

“Meow—” Mom was startled.

The white flour was washed away, revealing the black soot. The little white cat turned into a little black cat.

Mom rinsed him again.

“Meow—” Mom was startled again.

The black soot was washed away, revealing the yellow dirt. The little black cat turned into a little yellow cat.

Mom rinsed him once more.

“Meow—” Mom was startled again.

The yellow dirt was washed away, revealing the green paint. The little yellow cat turned back into a little green cat.

Mom kept rinsing and rinsing, but the green paint wouldn’t come off. His fur was all stuck together, and it was hard to wash. Mom had to use a brush to scrub hard and her claws to scratch hard.

“Ow-ow! Meow—ow-ow, meow—”

The little cat cried out in pain.

Finally, the paint came off, but patches of the little cat’s fur fell off too.

Just like that, the little green cat turned into a little bald cat.
