Big Fruit Small Fruit Story
Dou Dou and Fang Fang are sisters. Dou Dou is the older sister, and Fang Fang is the younger sister. They are only a few months apart in age, but they are the same height. In fact, Fang Fang is taller than Dou Dou.
One day, an uncle from the south visited their family and brought many delicious and fun things for them. Each sister received a small purple fruit.
This type of fruit is not found in the north. What kind of fruit is it? Dou Dou said, “It looks like a small eggplant.”
Fang Fang looked at it and said, “Yes, it does look like an eggplant.”
Fang Fang looked at her own small fruit, then at Dou Dou’s small fruit, and thought Dou Dou’s small fruit was slightly bigger than hers. She said, “Yours is bigger.”
Dou Dou also looked at the two small fruits and said, “It does seem a bit bigger.”
Fang Fang was unhappy and said, “You’re the older sister, and I’m the younger sister. I want the bigger one.”
Dou Dou held the slightly bigger fruit, thought for a while, and finally held out her hand and said, “Let’s switch.”
After they switched fruits, they cut the fruits open.
Inside Dou Dou’s small fruit was white flesh, segment by segment, looking fresh and delicious. However, inside Fang Fang’s big fruit was not fresh flesh but dried and shriveled fruit pulp.
Dou Dou’s small fruit was delicious, while Fang Fang’s big fruit was inedible.
Fang Fang started to cry.
Dou Dou had to share half of her fruit with Fang Fang.
Their uncle asked, “Was the fruit tasty?”
Both of them said, “Yes, it was delicious.”
“Who ate the big one and who ate the small one?”
Dou Dou said, “We ate the small one together, and we’ll eat the big one together tomorrow.”
Their uncle said, “That’s great. By eating one fruit a day, you get to enjoy the taste for an extra day. So smart.”
Fang Fang knew that tomorrow’s delicious taste would only exist in her imagination.
