Bedtime story with animals: Trampoline by the Pond

As the weather gradually warmed up, Little Field Mouse and his mother walked past the pond. They saw purple flowers blooming in the pond, with large, beautiful yellow spots on the petals.

“Mom, look! Those flowers look like peacock feathers,” said Little Field Mouse.

“Those are water hyacinths,” said Mother Field Mouse.

Mother Field Mouse suddenly thought of something. She hurried to the shore and brought back a lot of dried water hyacinths. The hyacinths piled up together, forming a thick, soft bed. Mother Field Mouse climbed on it and started bouncing lightly.

“Mom, I want to play too!” Little Field Mouse was overjoyed and joined his mother in bouncing. The stalks of the water hyacinths were all plump and swollen. Little Field Mouse jumped up and down, bouncing really high.

“Mom, this is so much fun!” Little Field Mouse laughed out loud.

Suddenly, Little Field Mouse felt his foot sink down and fell onto the flattened water hyacinths.

“It’s okay!” Mother Field Mouse laughed as she helped Little Field Mouse up. “You jumped too hard and burst the water hyacinth’s swollen pods!”

Just then, Gray Mouse Mother was walking over the hill with Little Gray Mouse. Little Gray Mouse spotted Little Field Mouse and Mother Field Mouse from a distance.

Little Gray Mouse ran over, laughing and shouting, “I want to play too! I want to play too!”

“Hey, climb up!”

“Hee-hee, jump down!”

“Haha, bounce up!”

That afternoon, the mothers gathered more water hyacinths and spread them out to make a big, thick trampoline.

When it was time to rest, Mother Field Mouse dug up a small pile of peanuts on the hillside with her paws. The peanuts weren’t fully mature yet—the shells were still white, and the kernels were tender and delicious!

The mothers also used the swollen pods of the water hyacinths to make cute little pillows for the babies.

That night, Little Field Mouse lay in his own bed, holding his little pillow, feeling so much love for his mother. “I want to be just like Mom when I grow up—knowing every plant in the field. I want to learn how to find food, come up with lots of fun games, and also…”

There must be so many interesting things to discover in the fields. What could they be? Little Field Mouse wondered and wondered, falling more in love with the fields.

Little Field Mouse blinked his eyes. He was getting sleepy and ready for a sweet, good night’s sleep. Goodnight, moon outside the window! Goodnight, bushes in front of the burrow! Goodnight, peanuts on the hillside! Goodnight, beautiful water hyacinths in the pond.
