Bedtime Stories with Animals

On the mountain, there is a big cave, spacious and airy. A big tiger moved in, and just after laying down some dry leaves, she gave birth to a tiger cub.

Facing the big cave, on a rock, there is a little cave also laid with dry leaves. That’s the home of Mama Sparrow and her little sparrow.

Since the tiger moved in, the forest hasn’t heard the song of the little sparrow, and the meadow hasn’t seen the little sparrow practicing flying. One day, Mama Sparrow packed her things, preparing to move away with her baby.

At that moment, Mama Tiger stood on the grass in front of the little cave and shouted loudly, “Mama Sparrow, my tiger cub is sick. I need to gather some medicine. Could you please look after my cub for a while?”

Mama Sparrow tightly hugged her little sparrow and didn’t dare to make a sound. Mama Tiger continued, “We are neighbors, and we are both mothers. You will help me, won’t you?”

Mama Sparrow poked her head out, looked at the little tiger lying on the dry leaves in the big cave, and nodded in agreement.

As soon as Mama Tiger left, the little tiger started crying loudly.

The little sparrow was so scared that it burrowed into its mother’s embrace. “Mama, the little tiger’s cry is so loud. Is it really smaller than me?”

Mama Sparrow said, “Yes, its mother has gone out, and it’s so pitiful being sick!”

The little sparrow thought for a moment and said, “Then I will sing a song for it. Will its illness get better?”

“Yes, child, sing. Sing loudly. The sparrow’s song should spread through the forest.”

“Big cave, little cave,
Both are homes.
Don’t cry, don’t be afraid,
Baby’s mama will come home.”

The clear song of the little sparrow spread from the little cave into the big cave. Gradually, the little tiger stopped crying. It squinted its eyes, listening to the little sparrow’s song, and soon fell asleep.

Mama Tiger returned with the medicinal herbs. She kissed the soundly sleeping little tiger. Then, she wove a wreath from colorful wildflowers and hung it around the little sparrow’s neck. “This is for you, our little songbird of the forest.”

The little sparrow was very happy and thought: Although Mama Tiger looks scary, she loves her baby just like my mama loves me. It turns out that all mothers in the world have kind hearts!

The next day, the little tiger’s illness was cured. Mama Tiger carried it on her back, basking in the sun at the entrance of the cave. Mama Sparrow also decided not to move away. Look, she’s flapping her wings on the grass, teaching the little sparrow to fly!

Big cave, little cave, both are home to a loving mother and her baby.
