On the “Strange and Magical Island,” there lived a group of small animals, each with their own unique skills. Among them was a selfish little fox named Hong’er, who never shared anything with others. However, one day, Hong’er was captured by a monster who called himself the “Demon King”! This scene was witnessed by the little pigeon Fei’er…
Like a gust of wind, Fei’er flew straight to the Lion King’s house, who was the leader of all the animals.
“Lion King! Lion King! Something terrible has happened! Little Fox Hong’er has been captured by the ‘Demon King’!” Fei’er exclaimed breathlessly.
The Lion King immediately called for a meeting of all the animals in the forest square.
The Lion King solemnly announced, “Little Fox Hong’er has been captured by the ‘Demon King’! Who is willing to go to the ‘Dark Swamp’ to rescue her?”
“I will!” The little monkey TiaoTiao responded without hesitation.
“I will!” “Me too!” “Count me in!” “And me!” All the animals shouted, eager to volunteer. In the end, TiaoTiao the monkey, Sim the eagle, Feiyu the dog, Benben the elephant, Ben’er the horse, and Zixi the mole set off together to rescue Hong’er from the “Dark Swamp.”
Upon arriving at the “Dark Swamp,” they found it eerie and terrifying. Feiyu was so frightened he nearly fainted.
As the animals walked cautiously, suddenly, a red-faced witch sprang out from a dead tree. The witch, with a hoarse voice, said to the animals, “I will ask you a question. If you answer correctly, I will let you pass. If you answer wrong, ha ha! Don’t even think about getting through here!”
“Here’s my question: Am I beautiful?”
Benben was about to say “no,” but TiaoTiao, quick as a flash, covered Benben’s mouth.
“You are incredibly beautiful!” TiaoTiao said.
The witch smiled so broadly that she let them pass.
As night began to fall, the surroundings grew even more sinister and frightening. After walking a bit further, they were blocked by a small river. While everyone was racking their brains for a solution, TiaoTiao suddenly exclaimed, “We can have Benben carry me, Sim carry Zixi, and Ben’er carry Feiyu across the river.”
Everyone thought this was a great idea and proceeded accordingly. Just as they reached the other side, a woman in white suddenly appeared, startling them. With a cold expression, she said, “I have waited here for five hundred years! I have asked countless animals a question, but none could answer it, so they had to return empty-handed. Can you answer it? If not, you should go back!”
“No! We won’t leave! Ask your question!” the group of animals replied firmly.
“Alright! How many stars are there in the sky?” the woman in white asked urgently.
“How many could there be?” “We don’t know!” “What should we do?” They all discussed it anxiously throughout the night.
Early the next morning, the woman in white returned. “Have you figured it out?” she asked, her eyes wide.
TiaoTiao looked up at the sky and suddenly said, “I know! I know!”
The woman in white was shocked and asked, “How many? Tell me quickly!”
“Look, there isn’t a single star in the sky right now!” TiaoTiao pointed to the sky and said.
“Ah! I understand now, there are no stars in the sky!” the woman in white exclaimed.
At that moment, the woman in white said to the animals, “I was once a human, but an accident took my life. I have always wanted to figure this out, so I asked the gods to let me understand it before I could go to heaven. Now that I understand, it’s time for me to leave. Goodbye!” As soon as she finished speaking, the woman in white turned into a wisp of blue smoke and floated away.
The animals hurried through the night and finally reached the “Ghostly Castle.” Cold winds blew around the castle, sending shivers down their spines.
Suddenly, the castle turned into three identical castles! This worried them greatly, as choosing the wrong one could lead to their deaths. Feiyu sniffed the air and shouted, “I smell Hong’er’s scent! It’s coming from the castle on the far right!”
Sim, gathering his courage, carefully flew to the window of that castle and saw Hong’er tied to a wooden stake. He nodded to his companions, signaling that Hong’er was indeed there.
So, Zixi dug a tunnel overnight; TiaoTiao found a rope and hid in the bushes with Feiyu, waiting for the right moment; Ben’er and Benben went inside to rescue Hong’er, while Sim was responsible for keeping watch and cutting the ropes.
Ben’er and Benben carried a large bucket of water through the tunnel to the interior of the castle.
Benben first sucked up a large amount of water, went outside, and sprayed it all over the “Demon King’s” face before quickly escaping back into the tunnel.
The enraged “Demon King” rose to chase Benben, but he was gone. Ben’er stood there nonchalantly. The “Demon King,” furious, gave chase, and Ben’er, realizing the plan was working, ran outside the castle.
Sim saw the “Demon King” leave and quickly used his sharp beak to cut the ropes, grabbed Hong’er, and flew off. He gave a loud call to signal success, telling TiaoTiao and Feiyu to get ready. Suddenly, Ben’er made a leap, causing the “Demon King” to fall to the ground with a thud.
TiaoTiao and Feiyu quickly tied the “Demon King” up tightly. They hurried back home and delivered the evil “Demon King” to the “Forest Police Station,” while taking the barely-alive Hong’er to the “Red Heart Forest Hospital” for emergency care.
After careful treatment by the doctors, Hong’er recovered and was discharged from the hospital. She found a large crowd waiting at the hospital entrance, all there to visit her. Tears flowed from Hong’er’s eyes like pearls from a broken string as she said, “I was so selfish, yet you all treated me so well. I feel so ashamed!”
“Because you’re our good friend! We don’t hold grudges, and we believe you’ll change for the better!” the animals said in unison. From then on, Hong’er became very generous, often donating her pocket money to poor areas, and found that this made her much happier than before.
