Bedtime Delay Story: Go to Sleep, Little Mouse!

Nighttime had arrived.

“Time for bed, you should be asleep already!” said Mommy Mouse to Little Mouse.

“Just 10 more minutes! I need to nibble on some cheese!” Little Mouse shouted as he gnawed 10 holes into the cheese.

“Happy now? Time to brush your teeth and get to bed,” said Daddy Mouse.

“Just 9 more minutes! I need to bring my race car inside.” Little Mouse shouted as he dashed out, drove his race car around 9 times, and finally brought it into the house.

“Change into your pajamas and get to bed!” Mommy called out again.

“Just 8 more minutes, I need to water my cactus.” Little Mouse ran to the windowsill and gave the cactus 8 drops of water.

“Go to bed now, no more delays!” urged Daddy.

“Coming, coming! I just need to say goodnight to Aunt Hamster, it’ll only take 7 minutes!” Little Mouse ran to Aunt Hamster’s house.

“Goodnight, goodnight…” Little Mouse said 7 times in a row, but Aunt Hamster didn’t hear a thing—she was already fast asleep.

“If you don’t get to bed now, I’m going to be upset!” shouted Mommy Mouse.

Little Mouse jumped into bed with a “whoosh,” but then suddenly remembered something. “I need to get out of bed—I’m thirsty, Mommy! I ate too much cheese! I need some water, just wait, it’ll only take 6 minutes.”

Little Mouse ran to the kitchen, grabbed a cup, and gulped down 6 big sips of cold water.

“Time to sleep now!” said Daddy.

“Goodnight, my little darling!” said Mommy.

“Wait, just 5 more minutes.” Little Mouse remembered his toy animals hadn’t gone to bed yet. Mommy found 5 toy animals under the sofa and placed them on Little Mouse’s bed.

“Goodnight, sweet dreams!” said Daddy.

“Give me 4 minutes, I need to go to the bathroom!” Little Mouse had drunk too much water earlier. After going to the bathroom, he flushed the toilet 4 times.

“Alright, alright, now you can sleep!” Daddy and Mommy said together.

“Wait, I haven’t brushed my teeth yet! It’ll only take 3 minutes.” Little Mouse ran to the bathroom and started brushing his three little teeth.

“Can you sleep now?” asked Daddy.

“Not yet, there’s one more thing, just 2 minutes!” Little Mouse whispered into Mommy’s ear, “You’re the best Mommy Mouse in the world!” Then he whispered into Daddy’s ear, “You’re the best Daddy Mouse in the world!”

“And you’re the best, most wonderful Little Mouse in the world!” Daddy and Mommy said in unison, “Now it’s time to sleep.”

“Just 1 more minute!” Little Mouse pleaded, “You have to tell me a story, or I’ll never be able to fall asleep.”

“Alright,” Daddy sighed, grabbing a book from the shelf. He began to read, “Once upon a time, there was a little mouse who never wanted to go to sleep, always asking for 10 more minutes, then 9 more minutes…”

Go to sleep, Little Mouse! Have sweet dreams and sleep well!
