Bear and Zebra

Mr. Bear came to the city. He was there to find Miss Zebra, who had run away from home. Gazing at the bustling crowds and vehicles, Mr. Bear couldn’t help but break into a cold sweat. What if Miss Zebra had been caught? The more he thought about it, the more frightened he became.

At that moment, Mr. Bear noticed many people crossing the road together.

Oh no! Mr. Bear looked down and saw these people walking on black and white stripes!

Isn’t that Miss Zebra’s beautiful dress? It seems Miss Zebra has already…

Mr. Bear started to cry in sorrow.

“Hey, why are you crying?” A kid gave him a push, “Mister, you have to walk on the zebra crossing!”

Luckily, the kid didn’t realize he was a bear because Mr. Bear had wrapped his head with a thick scarf.

Just then, Mr. Bear was pulled into the bushes by the roadside.

Mr. Bear turned around, only to see that it was Miss Zebra who had pulled him in.

At this moment, Miss Zebra was glaring with her big, round eyes, pouting her long horse-like mouth, and looking very displeased.

“You country bumpkin, you don’t know any of the rules! Be careful, or humans will discover you and turn you into a fur coat!”

Mr. Bear scratched his big head and chuckled foolishly.

“We need to turn the whole city into a sea of zebras!” Miss Zebra said proudly, lifting her head high.

They went to a paint shop and bought several buckets of paint and several brushes.

Night fell quickly.

At Miss Zebra’s command, Mr. Bear began painting.

Paint, paint, paint—every road, every tall building, every car, every tree… even a passing little mouse—all were covered in black and white stripes.

Finally, Miss Zebra and Mr. Bear were exhausted, and they collapsed in the bushes and fell asleep.

The next day, just as the sun was peeking over the horizon, people began waking up for work and school.

Oh my! Everywhere was covered in zebra-like black and white stripes.

The adults, carrying their briefcases, tiptoed carefully as they walked.

But the zebra stripes were so dizzying! They looked like a vast ocean of black and white waves, rippling constantly in front of their eyes.

Some adults, as they walked, unknowingly started walking up the walls, but after a while, they would fall down with a crash, wailing in pain.

But the children were delighted. They walked and walked along the zebra stripes, and even when they fell, they would immediately get back up and keep walking.

Some children climbed up tall trees and swung on the branches; some climbed on top of cars and practiced handstands; others climbed onto rooftops and pretended to be superheroes.

The children had long forgotten about going to school.

The police hurriedly arrived in their patrol cars.

Seeing so many zebra stripes, the police chief exclaimed, “Oh no, the Zebra Aliens have invaded Earth!”

“Zebra Aliens?” The eyes of all the police officers nearly popped out.

“Yes, an alien species that looks like zebras!” the police chief said, pacing back and forth. “Their planet’s resources are depleted, so they want to take over Earth. First, they turn Earth into a zebra-like pattern, and then, when they move around, we won’t be able to see them!”

“Darn it! We must catch those Zebra Aliens!”

“Hee-hee, this is so much fun!” Miss Zebra clapped her hands in delight, waking up from all the noise.

“No, we’ve caused trouble!” Mr. Bear said gravely, having also been awakened.

“What should we do? Let’s run away!” Miss Zebra said, suddenly fearful.

“No!” Mr. Bear shouted and dragged Miss Zebra to the gas station.

“I need ten barrels of gasoline!” Mr. Bear yelled urgently.

Mr. Bear was incredibly strong, and as he ran, he poured out the gasoline.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh… The trees turned green, the buildings’ exteriors returned to their original colors, the roads became pitch black again, and the cars shed their zebra outfits. Of course, people’s clothes also turned colorful once more.

In that instant, people were stunned. Then, they looked at each other, wide-eyed.

“We’re saved!” People hugged each other, laughing, crying, and cheering.

“Let’s go. Everything is back to normal. We should return to the forest!” Miss Zebra gently tugged at Mr. Bear.

“You don’t hate me for giving you morning glory flowers anymore?” Miss Zebra’s sudden willingness to go back to the forest surprised Mr. Bear.

“Of course not, because you’re a responsible, good bear!”

Mr. Bear chuckled. He didn’t understand how just one trip to the city and a little zebra operation had turned him into a good bear.
