beach story: The Bird that Flew from the Rainbow

The red-breasted robin is the most beautiful bird on the beach.

Her chest is adorned with a vibrant red patch, as beautiful as the morning glow on the beach. But she is a proud bird, a naïve bird.

One day, she landed on a dark, rugged reef.

The reef was rough, with no vegetation growing on it, and many broken oyster shells adhered to it. Only an extremely ugly little crab was crawling on it.

“What an ugly reef, it doesn’t match the azure sky, the blue sea, and the silver-like clouds at all,” muttered the robin.

At that moment, the robin noticed the little crab waving its large claws, as if beckoning something.

Oh, it was a fiddler crab.

The tide came in, and dark clouds gathered in the sky, making the sea appear gloomy as the waves roared like a thousand horses charging forward.

The wind, like a commander, shouted orders.

The tide launched an attack on the reef, with lightning and raindrops cheering it on.

Amid the almost sky-shattering roar, the robin grew frightened. The seawater splashed onto her feathers, making her too weak to fly.

The robin hid in the highest and most concealed part of the reef.

She watched as the reef stood unmoved, welcoming each wave.

The waves crashed into the reef and shattered, wailing as they prepared for another assault; yet the reef remained so cold and composed, neither fearful nor smug.

Finally, the waves and storm grew weary and slowly receded, the rain stopped, and the sun peeked out from the horizon.

The seawater, reflecting the sunset, looked beautiful.

The little robin shook her wings and looked at the reef—it was still as rugged and barren as ever, and the fiddler crab climbed back up, keeping the reef company.

For some reason, the little robin found the reef to be simple yet strong, as if it held infinite power within its rough exterior, with a peculiar beauty beneath the rolling waves.

From then on, the little robin flew there every day. She admired the sea from the reef; she braved the wind and waves on the reef; she chatted with the fiddler crab on the reef. The fiddler crab told the little robin many interesting stories about the sea…

And the little robin? She was no longer so proud, no longer so naïve, but had become very brave and composed.

The little fiddler crab praised her, saying, “The red-breasted robin has the heart of an eagle; she is a beautiful bird that flew from the rainbow after the storm…”
