A Touching Love Story 1
25-year-old Shen Mo decided to return to the small town where he was born and open a cinema for the blind. This idea came to him the day after he finished handling his grandmother’s funeral arrangements. This special cinema was not much different from a regular one, except it required a dedicated narrator. Since the audience was blind, Shen Mo would narrate the scenes without dialogue, explaining the background and progress.
When Shen Mo lived in the town, he often narrated movies to his blind grandmother. Later, when Shen Mo’s family moved away, his grandmother refused to leave the town where she had lived her whole life until her death.
The first screening was very successful. Many blind elderly people came to watch, and Shen Mo breathed a sigh of relief when it ended. As he was about to pack up, he noticed someone still sitting in the middle row.
It was a young girl with long, silky hair that fell to her shoulders. She sat quietly, her eyes fixed on the screen, but her gaze was empty.
Later, Shen Mo learned that the girl’s name was Sun Jiao, the granddaughter of Grandpa Sun. She was only 24 years old, in the prime of her youth. Despite her blindness, Sun Jiao had a cheerful personality and was curious about everything. However, her world had only one color.
When Shen Mo explained the movie’s plot, she always tilted her head slightly, her big eyes unblinking. One evening, as they chatted late into the night, Sun Jiao suddenly slapped her forehead, “My great uncle must be waiting for me to eat.” She hurriedly stood up to leave but accidentally bumped into the chair in front of her and stumbled.
Shen Mo reacted quickly, catching her. Her hands were slender and soft, making it hard for him to let go. Shen Mo felt a stir in his heart and impulsively said, “Let me be your guide dog…”
That night, Shen Mo went home and relaxed on his large wooden bed, playing a soothing tune.
His boss suddenly called, “Shen Mo, there’s a new project with state funding support. It’s a big deal. The team is gearing up for it. Come back.” Shen Mo was stunned.
The next day’s film was “Perhaps Love,” starring Zhou Xun and Takeshi Kaneshiro. Shen Mo was a bit distracted during his narration. Only Zhou Xun’s low singing voice echoed in his ears: “The outside world is wonderful, the outside world is helpless…”
He escorted Sun Jiao home and stood outside her house. Shen Mo looked steadily at Sun Jiao. Her eyes seemed to be on him too, but she didn’t know that the man opposite her had tears welling up in his eyes. Shen Mo gently hugged Sun Jiao, “I’ll only walk you this far; otherwise, Grandpa Sun will invite me in for dinner again.”
Sun Jiao laughed, “It’s okay, it’s just a few steps; I’m used to it.”
Three years later, Shen Mo returned to the small town. His eyes were severely injured in the project, and his surgery was scheduled for three days later. However, the doctor said there was only a 50% chance of recovery.
Shen Mo walked the streets, enveloped in familiar scents from the past. Suddenly, he heard Grandpa Sun’s familiar voice: “Old Liu, today the blind cinema is showing ‘Real Steel.’”
Shen Mo was stunned. How was the blind cinema still operating? As Grandpa Sun’s footsteps drew closer, Shen Mo panicked and wanted to hide, but Grandpa Sun grabbed him, “Old Liu, hurry up.”
Shen Mo sat quietly as the energetic opening music began, and the narrator’s voice started.
It was Sun Jiao!
“Wasn’t she blind? How could she narrate movies?” Shen Mo regretted it, fearing that Grandpa Sun might recognize his voice. Grandpa Sun grumbled, “What are you saying? I’m blind, but that doesn’t mean my whole family is. There was a young man who used to narrate for us…”
Shen Mo froze. He suddenly realized that Sun Jiao had never mentioned that she couldn’t see.
After the movie ended, Shen Mo fumbled to leave. As he turned, he heard a beautiful voice that made his heart race, “This time, let me be your guide dog?”
