The Exploding Apple

Little Pig planted an apple tree. When autumn arrived, the tree was laden with bright red apples. Little Pig was very happy! One day, while Little Pig was resting under the tree, a little bird flew by. The bird saw so many apples and chirped, “Great, great! Little Pig’s apple tree has so many apples!”

The bird’s chirping attracted a fox. The fox looked up at the red apples, drooling. He said to Little Pig, “These apples must be really sweet. Can you give me a few to try?” Little Pig shook his head and replied, “If you want to eat them, you should plant your own!”

But the fox didn’t like to work and had no patience for planting apple trees. One day, the fox came up with a bad idea. He tied several big red balloons to a tree and then ran to Little Pig, saying, “I planted a new variety of apple tree that produces apples in just a few days. My apples are so big and red that yours can only be considered small!”

Curious, Little Pig went to see the fox’s apple tree. Standing under the tree, he saw a few enormous red apples hanging high up in the branches.

Little Pig wanted to grow apples that big too. He said to the fox, “Can you trade me one apple? I want to use it as a seed.” The fox became very pleased and, shaking his head, said, “Trading is fine, but these apples are especially big and precious, so you’ll have to give me a lot to get one of my big red apples.”

Little Pig agreed to trade three baskets of apples for one of the fox’s big red apples. He huffed and puffed, dragging three baskets of apples over. The fox prepared to climb the tree to pick his apples.

The little bird, knowing everything, was worried and thought, “Little Pig, you mustn’t fall for the sly fox’s trick!”

Kids, do you think Little Pig will be tricked? How can Little Pig discover that the fox’s apples are fake?
