The Big-Mouthed Little Lion
The little lion has a big mouth, and when he talks, his voice is loud. His roar can be heard from one end of the forest to the other. His voice is so frightening that it makes the little animals cover their ears. The little lion feels quite pleased with himself, thinking: “With my loud voice, I can scare everyone away and be the best at everything.”
One day, an old man pushed a cart to sell balloons. The balloons were really beautiful, in all kinds of colors: red, yellow, blue, green, and purple. All the little animals rushed over to buy them, crowding around the cart so that it couldn’t move. The old man smiled and said, “Don’t worry, don’t worry, let’s line up and buy one at a time.” Hearing this, everyone quickly formed a line.
The little lion arrived last and stood at the end of the line. He kept staring at the balloons. Oh no! The little rabbit bought the red balloon, the little cat got the green one, and the big tiger took the blue balloon. Only the yellow balloon was left.
The little lion thought, “The balloons will be sold out soon; I might not get one!” Feeling anxious, he opened his big mouth and roared, “Awwww!” Suddenly, all the little animals covered their ears and ran away. “Haha!” The little lion felt quite proud and rushed to the front. But when he looked closely, he saw that the old man selling the balloons had also been scared away.
With his head down, the little lion walked forward. Suddenly, he heard a loud drumming sound. It turned out that a tall uncle had brought a few little monkeys to perform acrobatics. The performance was amazing; the little monkeys flipped and walked on tightropes, and everyone clapped in excitement.
The little lion stood behind a giraffe and could only hear the cheers from the crowd without seeing the performance. “What should I do?” he wondered. Feeling anxious again, he opened his big mouth and roared at the giraffe, “Awwww!” This time, the giraffe got scared and ran away, causing one of the little monkeys to fall off the tightrope.
The little lion felt really disappointed and decided to go home and take a nap. As he walked, he passed by a small pond where a chubby uncle was fishing. Fishing looked nice; sitting there with a fishing rod seemed comfortable and easy. The little lion borrowed the fishing rod from the chubby uncle and started to fish.
He waited and waited, but no fish were biting while the chubby uncle had already caught two. “How long do I have to wait?” Feeling impatient, the little lion opened his big mouth and shouted at the pond, “Awwww!” All the little fish that had just swum close by quickly darted away. The chubby uncle glared at the little lion in frustration.
Feeling sad that he couldn’t do anything right, the little lion thought, “What should I do?” Can you help the little lion?
