The Wandering Forest
Nini lived at the edge of a forest in the countryside. Since she was little, she loved playing in the forest, where the birds in the trees, the sika deer in the woods, and the rabbits hiding in the grass were all her friends.
Nini loved playing the flute, and whenever she played, the animals would quietly gather around her, perking up their ears to listen.
One day, Nini heard the groans of a sika deer. When she ran into the forest, she saw the deer lying under a big tree, barely clinging to life. It turned out that the evil bullet of a poacher had pierced the heart of the deer.
Nini cradled the deer, heartbroken. At that moment, the sika deer suddenly began to speak. The deer said to Nini, “Nini, I am the sacred deer of the forest. After I die, please take my antlers and make them into a deer-head mask. Once you wear this mask, your flute will become a magic flute, and all the animals in the forest will be able to understand you. When the poachers come again, all you need to do is play the flute, and the animals will hide at once.”
Nini buried the deer and took its precious seven-pronged antlers, crafting them into a magical deer-head mask. From that day on, whenever she saw poachers entering the forest, Nini would put on the mask and play her bamboo flute. The animals in the forest, upon hearing Nini’s flute, would swiftly hide deep in the woods, making it impossible for the poachers to find them.
Later, the city began expanding, and the government decided that this forest on the outskirts would be cut down to make way for high-rise buildings.
What could be done? If the forest was cut down, the animals living there would be homeless! Nini decided to lead the animals to find a new home. She donned the mask, played her magic flute, and set off. Upon hearing her flute, all the animals in the forest followed Nini, with the birds in the trees flying alongside her, and even the fish in the river jumping onto the shore to join her.
Then, something even more miraculous happened: the entire forest, including the river within it, began to move, following Nini as she went.
Thus, the animals returned to the forest, the birds flew back into the trees, and the fish returned to the stream.
As for Nini, she kept wearing the mask and playing her magic flute, leading the entire forest forward.
This is a wandering forest, and to this day, it has yet to find a new home.
