The Chubby Pig Moves Again
Chubby Pig had to move again. He had moved five times already, and this was the sixth time. Did the pig like moving? No. Were the neighbors bad? Also no. Sigh, Chubby Pig could only blame himself for snoring at night. His snoring, rumbling like thunder, made it impossible for his neighbors—Rooster, Little Goat, Little Gray Rabbit, and others—to sleep. The next day, everyone had red eyes, looked exhausted, and kept yawning. Chubby Pig felt bad, as if he had done something wrong, and felt guilty toward everyone. So, he hurried to move, again and again.
Early this morning, Chubby Pig packed his bag and set off to find new neighbors. He thought, this time, he must find a village where he could live alone and no longer disturb others. Thinking this made him feel much lighter, and he started humming a little tune: “Snore, snore, Chubby Pig loves to snore. Friends can’t sleep, oh dear, what to do? I guess I’ll build a house for myself.” He hummed and hummed, and before he knew it, he had arrived in the forest of a mountain village. The trees were lined up, big and small, lush and green, so beautiful. “Hey, I’ll settle down here!” he thought. He put down his bag and decided to gather some branches to build a house.
Wait, what’s that? Not far from the ground, he found a neat pile of wood, each log about as thick as a bowl—perfect for building a house.
“Whose wood is this?” he wondered. He looked around, but the place was empty, with no one in sight. Chubby Pig shouted, “Whose wood is this~~?” Aside from the echo in the forest, there was only silence. Chubby Pig slapped his forehead and chuckled, “It must be kind-hearted Grandpa Earth who sent the wood for me to build my house.” He rolled up his sleeves and began moving the logs. From his bag, he took out a hammer and nails, and started banging away, building his house.
Just as the new house was about to be finished, thump thump thump, a big elephant appeared out of nowhere. The elephant swayed its long trunk and grumbled in a deep voice, “Why did you take my wood without asking?”
“What, your wood?” Chubby Pig was stunned. “I’m sorry, Mr. Elephant, I really didn’t know it was yours.” Chubby Pig hung his head, not knowing what to do.
The elephant, seeing that Chubby Pig was honest and good-hearted, softened a bit and kindly said, “Chubby Pig, how about this: I chop the wood, and you build the house. We both contribute, and we can live in the new house together!”
“Great!” Chubby Pig was overjoyed but quickly changed his mind. “No, no~~”
“Why don’t you want to live with me?” the elephant asked.
“It’s not that I don’t want to,” Chubby Pig replied shyly, “it’s just that I snore when I sleep, and I’ll keep you awake.”
“Haha, snoring? That doesn’t bother me! Look, I’ve got two ears as big as fans, I can cover them and won’t hear a thing.”
“Mr. Elephant, you’re so kind,” Chubby Pig said, feeling very happy.
Night fell, and as the silver moonlight quietly bathed the new house, Chubby Pig and the elephant were already fast asleep. Chubby Pig, as usual, snored like thunder—snore snore. As for the elephant, with his fan-like ears covering his ears, the loud snoring didn’t bother him at all.
From that day on, Chubby Pig never moved again. He and the elephant became good friends, and even now, they still live happily together.
