The Little Kangaroo on the Swing

It was the little kangaroo’s birthday. His dad was busy in the yard, hammering and crafting a green swing set made of vines and wooden planks just for him. The little kangaroo loved his birthday present so much! He sat on it, swinging higher and higher, having the best time.

Hearing the laughter, all the neighboring animals came over. The little monkey said, “Little kangaroo, your swing looks so much fun! Let us play too!” Everyone eagerly wanted to take a turn.

Seeing this, the little kangaroo got anxious. He quickly pushed everyone off, shouting, “No, no, you can’t sit on it!” “What do we have to do for you to let us play?” they asked. The little kangaroo thought for a moment and said, “This swing isn’t free to sit on; there’s a fee.” “How stingy!” the animals said, shaking their heads as they left.

At first, the little kangaroo felt proud of himself for driving them away. But as he continued swinging, he realized that playing all alone wasn’t much fun after all. “Sigh, if only the little monkey were here to play with me. He knows all sorts of tricks on the swing!” The little kangaroo began to regret what he had done. His dad, standing nearby, noticed what was on his son’s mind and said, “Well, why don’t you think of a way to make up for it?” The little kangaroo looked outside the gate and then down at the swing. “I’ve got it!” He clapped his hands, ran inside, grabbed a plank, and asked his dad to write “Free Swing Rides” on it and hung the sign on the bamboo fence.

When the little rabbit saw the sign, he came over. When the little dog saw it, he came over. The little monkey and the little elephant saw it too, and they all came over… The little kangaroo apologized to everyone: “I was wrong earlier. Now, please come play for free.” The little monkey scratched his cheek and, feeling a bit embarrassed, said, “We shouldn’t have fought over it. We should’ve taken turns.”

And so, the little kangaroo and his friends lined up one by one, taking turns to play on the swing. Today, the little kangaroo’s home was filled with fun and laughter!
