The Journey of the Little Leaf

Autumn had arrived, and it was once again time for Mother Tree to send her children off to live independently and travel to faraway places.

The autumn wind blew and blew, and one by one, the leaves bid farewell to Mother Tree, riding on the carriage of Sister Autumn Wind to begin their journeys. Only one timid little leaf remained, crying and fussing in Mother Tree’s arms, reluctant to leave. Patiently, Mother Tree said, “Silly child, the world outside is wonderful and beautiful. Go out and gain some knowledge and skills!”

Upon hearing her mother’s words, the little leaf decided to leave her embrace and explore the world beyond.

He flew and flew, over the forest and over the mountains, and arrived at the entrance to an earthworm’s burrow. There, he saw Uncle Earthworm hunched over, busy working in the soil. “Uncle Earthworm, can you teach me how to loosen the soil?” asked the little leaf. “Hehe, child, that’s not possible. You can’t burrow into the earth,” Uncle Earthworm replied with a smile. Just then, a chirping sound came from the sky. The little leaf looked up and saw that Mother Bird was teaching her baby birds how to fly. The little leaf hurriedly approached and said, “Mother Bird, can you teach me how to fly?” “No, no, you don’t have wings,” Mother Bird said, shaking her head.

Feeling sad, the little leaf continued on his way and unknowingly reached the edge of a pond. “One, two, three, jump…” A series of splashing sounds came from the grass by the pond. Curious, the little leaf ran over and saw that Mother Frog was teaching her little frogs to jump far. Each of the little frogs was energetic and bravely leaping forward. “Mother Frog, Mother Frog, can you teach me how to jump far?” the little leaf eagerly asked as he rushed forward. Mother Frog looked at the little leaf and said, “My dear, that’s not possible. You don’t have legs.” “Haha, look at him! He wants to learn to jump far, but he doesn’t even have legs!” The little frogs all laughed. The little leaf began to cry sadly. Mother Frog gently patted the little leaf on the head and said, “Sweet child, everyone has their own purpose. I believe you’ll find yours.”

Hearing Mother Frog’s words, the little leaf decided to cheer up.

He continued on his journey, spinning in the air. Suddenly, a faint cry came from the river, “Help… help…” The little leaf looked down and saw a small ant struggling desperately in the water. Without hesitation, the little leaf dropped down next to the little ant, who grabbed onto the little leaf and climbed up, saving its life. The little ant gratefully said, “Thank you for saving me! I must repay you! Where are you headed?” The little leaf sighed and said, “No need to thank me. Mother asked me to learn to live independently, but I don’t know where to go…” “Then come to my home! It’s in the fields, and the scenery there is absolutely beautiful!” the little ant said excitedly.

The little leaf followed the little ant to the fields and was instantly captivated by the beauty of the landscape: the blue sky, the endless fields, the white clouds, the green mountains, the clear waters, and the red flowers… The little leaf settled down next to Sister Chrysanthemum, and soon the little ant, the field mouse, the cricket, the lark… all became his good friends.

After some time, the little leaf joyfully discovered that he had changed. His body had completely merged with the earth. The next spring, in the soil where the little leaf had transformed, beautiful, vibrant, multicolored flowers bloomed.
