The Treasure Cave of Piggy Bank Bear
Pudding Town is a world of bears. It is home to Velvet Bears, Candy Bears, Crystal Bears, Piggy Bank Bears, Candle Bears, Bread Bears, Tin Bears… I can’t list all their names, just as I can’t list the names of all the children in China.
Today’s story is about Piggy Bank Bear…
Ding! Ding!
One coin, two coins, three coins… shiny coins drop one after another into Piggy Bank Bear’s belly, making a happy jingling sound.
Yes, day after day, this is how Piggy Bank Bear spends his days.
Anyone who wants to live like Piggy Bank Bear must become obsessed with collecting. And who knows better the joy of collecting than Piggy Bank Bear? Little by little, he gathers beautiful things, and with each new addition, the satisfaction and happiness in his heart grow…
At first, he only collected coins, but soon, his collection became even more colorful—
He collected feathers, all kinds of bright and colorful feathers:
Fan-sized feathers;
Tiny, seed-sized feathers;
Soft and airy feathers;
Smooth and sturdy feathers;
Sunshine-bright feathers;
Moonlight-soft feathers…
He collected stones, all kinds of bright and colorful stones:
Smooth, egg-like stones;
Plump, bread-shaped stones;
Star-shaped stones, like little stars;
Oddly shaped stones, resembling all sorts of small animals…
He collected seashells, all kinds of bright and colorful seashells:
Shells that shimmered with rainbow colors;
Shells that carried the scent of the sea;
Shells with mysterious patterns;
Shells shaped like small bowls that could be used for meals…
Piggy Bank Bear also collected flower petals, buttons, candy wrappers, fruit husks… In short, he collected all kinds of cute and interesting things. But in addition to these, Piggy Bank Bear collected something very special, very magical, and incredibly precious—
He collected “Seeds of Kindness.”
Have you ever heard of “Seeds of Kindness”? They are one of the oldest secrets of this planet. Very few people know about them, but they truly exist.
They always appear in moments when someone shows kindness:
For example, when someone shares a piece of bread with a hungry stray dog;
Or when someone wipes away the tears of a crying child and gives them a piece of candy;
Or when someone bandages a wounded bird;
Or when someone lights a lantern for a lost traveler in the dark night;
Or when someone picks up a banana peel from the road to prevent others from slipping…
Whenever someone does a kind deed, even just a small one, a “Seed of Kindness” appears in the air around them. Very few people notice them, and even if they do, they often mistake them for fireflies or some other glowing insect. In fact, they do resemble the fireflies that often appear on summer nights. But if you look closely, they look more like floating seeds, glowing with a faint golden light.
It’s not easy to collect “Seeds of Kindness.” Only someone like Piggy Bank Bear, with great passion and patience, can do it. Piggy Bank Bear had already collected 1,893 seeds, all carefully stored in beautiful glass bottles.
Every collector needs a place to treasure their finds, and Piggy Bank Bear was no exception. Of course, those shiny coins could be stored in his belly, but for all his other treasures, he needed a different hiding place.
At first, it was just a small treasure box, made by Tin Bear, with beautiful patterns carved on it. But soon, the small treasure box was no longer enough, and it was replaced by a large treasure chest. Then one chest became two, two became three… Until one day, Piggy Bank Bear discovered a large tree hollow.
It was truly a large hollow—dry, spacious, and hidden—just the perfect place to store treasures. From that day on, Piggy Bank Bear had a treasure cave. He neatly arranged all his collected treasures inside. Every now and then, he would visit his treasure cave to organize his latest finds, spending the whole day with his treasures, feeling like a wealthy tycoon.
One day, Piggy Bank Bear entered his treasure cave as usual, but to his great surprise, he found that his cave had completely changed—
The colorful pebbles he had collected were now neatly laid out on the floor, forming a beautiful mosaic;
The colorful seashells had been strung together into lovely wind chimes, hanging from the ceiling;
Three woven grass cradles were placed side by side on one side of the cave, each lined with the colorful feathers Piggy Bank Bear had collected. Three newborn baby rabbits were sleeping inside.
Nearby, an area was enclosed by a circle of shells, filled with nut-shell castles and candy-wrapper dolls—it was clearly a play area for the babies.
In the center of the tree hollow stood a small wooden table, with a lamp on top. The lamp gave off a warm golden glow. Piggy Bank Bear immediately recognized that the lamp was made from the “Seeds of Kindness” he had painstakingly collected.
Piggy Bank Bear sighed and murmured to himself, “It seems someone has used my treasures to create a rather lovely home!”
Just then, the sound of laughter came from the entrance. Piggy Bank Bear quickly hid in the shadows of the corner.
Two large rabbits entered, one white and one gray, followed by five slightly older rabbit children. They must have just been out mushroom picking because as soon as they came in, they poured a huge pile of mushrooms onto the floor.
Rabbit Mama immediately started a fire to cook. Before long, a pot of fragrant mushroom soup was ready. The rabbit family gathered around the table, eating happily. The lamp made from the “Seeds of Kindness” glowed brightly in the middle of them.
“Dear,” Piggy Bank Bear heard Rabbit Mama say to Rabbit Papa, “I feel so happy! We finally have a home and no longer have to wander.”
“Yes, this cave must be a gift from the fairies,” Rabbit Papa replied.
“That lamp is the best part—so warm, so bright. Its light is magical; just looking at it fills me with joy and hope.”
While the rabbit family was busy, Piggy Bank Bear quietly slipped out of the cave.
“Goodbye, my treasure cave,” Piggy Bank Bear whispered softly. “Though I feel a little sad, I’m glad you’ve become a home, because a happy home is far more important than a treasure cave.”
