House Like an Orange

Little Bear built a house in the forest.
It was a beautiful little house.
Little Bear said that once his new house was finished, he would invite all his good friends to visit and would treat them with the best food. His friends were eagerly waiting for Little Bear to finish his house.
When Little Porcupine saw that Little Bear had installed the last windowpane, he said, “I’ll buy a bucket of paint to help Little Bear paint his new house.”
When Little Hedgehog saw that Little Bear had finished nailing the threshold to the door, he said, “I’ll buy a bucket of paint to help Little Bear paint his new house.”
When Little Rabbit saw that Little Bear had built the wooden fence around the house, he said, “I’ll buy a bucket of paint to help Little Bear paint both the house and the fence.”

The next day, all three friends brought a bucket of paint for their dear friend, Little Bear.
Little Porcupine brought a bucket of blue paint. He said, “Paint the house blue, like a big ship. That would be really cool!”
Little Hedgehog brought a bucket of red paint. He said, “A red house would look like a big apple, so lovable!”
As for Little Rabbit, he brought a bucket of yellow paint. He said, “A yellow house would look like a sunflower blooming in the sunlight, so beautiful!”

When Little Bear saw his friends’ gifts, he felt both happy and troubled. He was grateful for their kindness and help, but he didn’t want his house to look like a big ship, a big apple, or a sunflower.
Little Bear loved eating oranges, and he wanted to paint his house orange-red, just like a big orange. He also wanted to paint the surrounding wooden fence green, like a bunch of green leaves. That would be so lovely!
After hearing this, his three friends were dumbfounded.

At that moment, another good friend of Little Bear’s, Little Raccoon, passed by and said, “No problem, no problem, this is an easy fix!”
Little Raccoon picked up a bucket, poured half of the yellow paint into the red paint, stirred it up, and said, “Look, doesn’t this turn into orange-red paint?”
Little Bear, Little Hedgehog, and Little Rabbit picked up their buckets and went to paint the house.
Then, Little Raccoon poured the remaining half bucket of yellow paint into the blue paint, stirred it up, and said, “Now this has turned into green paint, hasn’t it?”
Little Raccoon and Little Porcupine carried this bucket of paint and went to paint the wooden fence around the house.

Before long, a beautiful little house, just like an orange, appeared. Surrounding the “orange” was a bunch of green “leaves,” which was the pretty green fence.
Little Bear invited all his friends inside to visit, and he treated everyone with the best food. What was it, you ask?
You’ve probably guessed it—big, sweet oranges with a few green leaves on top!
