The Magic Show in the Sky
The sun had already climbed over the mountain and shone into the yard by the time the sika deer got up. The sika deer had been busy making a birthday cake late into the night and only rested much later. “Another beautiful day! Today is my birthday, and I want to invite my friends over to my house for a meal,” the sika deer thought.
“Sika deer, today is your birthday, and we have a special birthday gift for you. Come with me!” Little Flower Dog ran into the sika deer’s house. “What kind of special birthday gift could it be?” the sika deer wondered as he followed the little flower dog out the door.
“Sika deer, sit here! The magic show in the sky is about to begin!” Little Flower Dog led him to a grassy field. Upon hearing there was a magic show, the sika deer perked up immediately — he loved watching magic shows the most. The other animal friends had already run out from their homes and gathered on the field.
“Where is the magic show in the sky?”
“Who’s going to perform the magic?”
“Could it be that the eagle is going to perform magic in the air?”
Everyone was chattering and guessing. “Everyone, quiet down! The magic show in the sky is starting! The clouds are about to perform an amazing magic act for us. This is our birthday gift for the sika deer,” Little Flower Dog said warmly.
Everyone looked up and saw a white cloud floating in the sky, shaped like a towering mountain.
“Wow! The cloud has turned into a mountain,” the little squirrel shouted excitedly. In no time, the mountain transformed into a mighty lion standing in the sky.
“Wow! The mountain turned into a lion!” the sika deer exclaimed with excitement. Soon after, the lion morphed into a galloping horse.
“Wow! The lion turned into a running horse!” Little Flower Dog joyfully shouted. In the blink of an eye, the galloping horse slowly shifted into a dinosaur with a long tail, as if it could leap down from the sky at any moment.
Finally, the ever-changing cloud was blown apart by the wind, becoming thin wisps of cloud that drifted slowly toward the horizon.
“Oh no! The cloud is drifting away! The cloud is drifting away!” the sika deer cried out anxiously. He wanted to watch the magic show a bit longer.
“Don’t worry. Look closely, another cloud is floating over from beyond the mountains. It can perform magic too,” Little Flower Dog said.
Sure enough, just as Little Flower Dog said, the new cloud began performing magic for everyone. This was the most unforgettable birthday gift the sika deer had ever received.
Fun Fact: Clouds are truly amazing. Sometimes they look like mountains, sometimes like lions, or like galloping horses… floating and changing in shape constantly. This happens because of the effects of the sun, air, water, and wind. With sunlight, air, and water, clouds take on various shapes. Unevenly heated air creates wind, which moves about freely, blowing clouds across the sky and changing their forms. This is why we see clouds transform into all sorts of shapes.
