The Cat Makes Friends
In spring, when the forsythias bloomed, Mama Cat gave birth to a little kitten. Its eyes were bright and shiny, but its body was only the size of a button.
Summer passed, autumn came, then winter went by, but the kitten’s body remained just as small. Everyone called it “Tiny Cat.” When spring arrived again, Tiny Cat thought: I wonder what the outside world is like? Tiny Cat said to its mother, “I want to go out and explore, and make some new friends.”
Tiny Cat put on a pirate hat, grabbed a little wooden sword, and set off with its long-tailed kite. The kite carried Tiny Cat, floating and drifting. The weather was so hot, and there were fruits on the grass — they must be delicious! The kite drifted downward. Ouch! Tiny Cat’s belly was suddenly poked by something sharp. It turned out to be a little hedgehog! The little hedgehog said, “Hello, I’m Little Hedgehog. The fruit is sweet, I’ll share it with you.” Tiny Cat liked this new friend, and they ate fruit together while singing loudly.
When it was time to say goodbye, Tiny Cat said loudly, “Thank you, Little Hedgehog, I like you, and I’ll remember you.”
Tiny Cat walked into the forest and came to a wooden house with lights on inside. Tiny Cat climbed up to the high window ledge and peeked inside. Wow! There was a big-nosed creature smiling while eating dinner!
Tiny Cat knocked on the door and asked, “May I come in?”
It was Lulubear’s house. Lulubear, being very hospitable, invited Tiny Cat to taste some sweet honey.
That night, Tiny Cat slept inside Lulubear’s soft and cozy slipper — how comfortable! In the morning, Tiny Cat and Lulubear painted the wooden house together. Tiny Cat said, “I’ll go find some paint.”
Tiny Cat invited Sister Rainbow, who gently brushed her dress over the house. Instantly, the wooden house turned into a colorful painting.
Tiny Cat and Lulubear happily rolled around in the grass. When it was time to say goodbye, Tiny Cat said loudly, “Thank you, Lulubear, I like you, and I’ll remember you.”
Tiny Cat walked down the streets of a town, when several big cats came rushing by from a distance.
Tiny Cat said, “I’m a cat too! Would you like to be friends with me?”
The big cats said, “If you’re not afraid of mice, then we’ll be friends with you.”
Tiny Cat really wanted to be a cat who wasn’t afraid of mice, so it strapped on its roller skates and zoomed into a mouse hole.
At last, Tiny Cat conquered the mice. It even caught the smallest one.
Tiny Cat became good friends with the big cats.
When it was time to say goodbye, Tiny Cat said loudly, “Thank you, Big Cats, I like you, and I’ll remember you.”
Tiny Cat lay on the grass thinking: I’ve made so many new friends, how happy I am! If only Mama could share in this happiness with me. So it picked up some flower petals and drew a picture of itself and its friends, smiling. Then, Tiny Cat asked the pigeons to deliver it to Mama.
