The Story of Wolf and Jaybird

A long, long time ago, there was a beautiful blue lake. By the lakeside lived a jaybird and a prairie wolf.

At that time, the jaybird had a messy, scruffy coat of feathers, making it look very ugly. As for the prairie wolf, its entire body was covered in green fur, which was extremely unattractive!

Both the jaybird and the prairie wolf wanted to become beautiful. They tried many ways, but nothing worked.

One day, the jaybird was looking at the blue water of the lake and thought: “The color of the lake is so beautiful. If I bathe in the lake every day, maybe I can turn my feathers blue!”

The next day, the jaybird went to bathe in the lake. While bathing, it sang:
“Jump into the blue, blue lake,
I wash and wash,
Washing myself blue…”

On the fifth day, a miracle happened! The jaybird started to lose its feathers, becoming a bare, featherless bird. What’s even more amazing was that slowly, blue feathers began to grow.

It was truly magical! The jaybird had turned into a beautiful blue bird!

Soon, the prairie wolf came to the jaybird. It said, “Oh beautiful jaybird, you are the prettiest bird, no one is more beautiful than you. Please, tell me, how did you turn your feathers blue?”

The jaybird didn’t like the prairie wolf at all because it often bullied both the jaybird and other small animals. But the kind-hearted jaybird still decided to share its secret with the prairie wolf.

“Go bathe in the lake. Wash for four days, and it will happen,” said the jaybird. It even taught the wolf the song.

The prairie wolf did exactly as the jaybird instructed and bathed in the lake for four days, singing,
“Jump into the blue, blue lake,
I wash and wash,
Washing myself blue…”

On the fifth day, the green fur of the prairie wolf really turned into a beautiful blue!

The prairie wolf was extremely proud of itself. It thought it was the most beautiful wolf in the world. Look at it, walking around the road with its head held high and chest puffed out.

It hoped every passing animal would see it and praise its beauty!

The prairie wolf got so carried away with its excitement that it walked straight into a big tree and fell flat on its back, covered in dust from head to toe.

No matter how hard it tried to wash off the dust, it couldn’t. From that day on, the prairie wolf’s fur turned into a dull, dusty gray.
