Little Wolf Grey Goes to School

Once upon a time, there was a little wolf named Grey. Grey had spent so much time alone in the forest that he wanted to go to school. There were so many things at school, it was bound to be fun. Little Wolf Grey arrived at the school, sat among the other students, and listened to the teacher’s lesson.

The first lesson was learning vocabulary. The teacher wrote the words “apple” on the blackboard and told everyone, “This is an apple.”

“That’s not right!” Little Wolf Grey was the first to stand up and object. “An apple is round, red, and sweet, not like that.” The other children also chimed in, “Yeah, yeah, Little Wolf Grey is right. We’ve all eaten apples, we know what they’re like.”

The teacher, annoyed, said, “These are the words ‘apple,’ not a real apple.”

Curious, Little Wolf Grey asked, “Why isn’t the apple a real apple then?”

The other children also said in unison, “Yeah, if it’s not a real apple, what’s the point of learning about it?”

This question was a bit complicated, and the teacher started to get confused. The teacher scratched their head and said, “Alright, let’s stop learning vocabulary. Let’s tell a story instead!”

So, the teacher began telling the story of Little Red Riding Hood, and the children listened quietly, paying close attention.

The teacher kept telling the story, and when they got to the part where the Big Bad Wolf ate Little Red Riding Hood in one gulp, suddenly Little Wolf Grey stood up angrily and protested, “No, that’s not right! I’ve never eaten Little Red Riding Hood!”

“Maybe it was your dad,” someone said.

“My dad would never do such a thing!” Little Wolf Grey said angrily.

“Maybe it was your grandpa?”

“Or maybe your great-grandpa?” the others suggested, all talking at once.

Little Wolf Grey thought for a moment and stopped speaking because he honestly didn’t know if his grandpa or great-grandpa had ever done something as bad as eating Little Red Riding Hood.

The teacher originally wanted to tell Little Wolf Grey that stories aren’t always true, but was afraid he wouldn’t understand. So the teacher said, “Alright, the story ends here. Now, let’s go to P.E.!”

Little Wolf Grey and the other students went to the big playground and lined up on the track. The teacher told everyone to run and see who was the fastest.

“Ready, go!”

As soon as the teacher gave the signal, Little Wolf Grey shot forward like an arrow.

But, when he got to the corner of the track, he forgot to turn, so—

He ran straight across the playground, over the fields, and dashed back into the forest in the blink of an eye.
