children’s bedtime story about animals

The little bear drew a picture.

“This picture makes me feel so happy,” the little bear called out, seeing a chicken standing not far away. “Hello, this picture is for my grandma. Would you be willing to take it to her?”

“Of course, I’d be happy to,” said the chicken.

The chicken hurried to the bear grandmother’s house. When the bear grandmother saw the little bear’s picture, she was very pleased and hung it on the wall. Then she picked up the chicken and kissed her on the back.

“This kiss is for the little bear,” she said. “Would you be willing to take it to him?”

“I’m very happy to take it to him,” said the chicken, jumping out of the bear grandmother’s arms and quickly heading to the little bear’s house. On the way, she met some friends and stopped to chat.

“Hello, I have a kiss for the little bear from his grandma. Would you take it to him, Frog?”

“Sure,” said the frog.

The chicken kissed the frog on the back, and the frog started off toward the little bear’s house. But as he was hopping along, he came across a pond and stopped to swim. Seeing the cat lying on the shore, the frog called out, “Hey, Cat, I have a kiss for the little bear from his grandma. Would you take it to him? Hey! I’m here, in the pond. Come and get this kiss.”

The cat yawned and stretched, looking reluctant. But before anyone noticed, he leaped into the water, and the frog kissed him on the cheek, which meant he had taken the kiss. Then the cat climbed back onto the shore and started running to the little bear’s house. As he was running, he saw a soft, grassy meadow and wanted to lie down and sleep. But he hadn’t yet completed the task he had promised, and just then, luckily, a little skunk emerged from the grass nearby.

“Little Skunk,” he said, “I have a kiss to deliver to the little bear from his grandma. Be a good little skunk and take it to the little bear, will you?”

The little skunk was happy to do so, so the cat kissed the little skunk on the top of his head. But the little skunk hadn’t run far when he met another little skunk. The other little skunk was very pretty, so he gave the kiss to her. She kissed him back, and he kissed her again. They kept exchanging kisses back and forth.

At that moment, the chicken walked by and said, “That’s too many kisses.”

“But this is the little bear’s kiss, from his grandma,” said the little skunk.

“Exactly!” said the chicken. “So who has the kiss now?”

Of course, it was the pretty little skunk! The chicken angrily pecked the little skunk, taking the kiss back. She ran to the little bear’s house and gave the kiss to the little bear—by pecking him on the ear.

“This is from your grandma,” she said, “because of the picture you gave her.”

“Then let’s send a kiss back to her,” said the little bear.

“No!” said the chicken. “It’s all gotten out of hand!”

Not long after the chicken left, news arrived that the two little skunks had decided to get married. They invited the little bear, Mr. Bear, Mrs. Bear, Grandpa Bear, Grandma Bear, and little girl Emily, her doll Lucy, Duck, Cat, Chicken, Owl, and Frog.

Their wedding was joyful and wonderful, with all the guests arriving, and the little bear served as the best man. The little bear also gave the bride and groom a picture—a drawing of two little skunks kissing each other.

In the end, the little bear decided to give his grandma’s kiss and love to the bride and groom—he kissed each of the little skunks.
