Fable about sea turtle and seagull
On the sandy beach of an island, there was a giant sea turtle. It was basking in the warm sun, moving slowly, feeling very content.
A little seagull flew over, landing on the turtle’s back, and asked,
“Grandpa, how old are you?”
“Not too old, not too young, exactly 100 years old,” the turtle replied slowly.
“Wow! At such an old age, you must have traveled to many, many places, right? You must have great, great skills, right? You…” The curious little seagull bombarded the turtle with questions.
The old turtle became excited. It stretched its neck, raised its head, and swayed slightly as it boasted:
“Well, I’ve traveled all over the Pacific Ocean; I’ve wandered around desolate little islands; I’ve even visited the deepest parts of the sea. As for my incredible abilities, if I told you, you’d be drooling with envy…”
Just as the turtle was proudly spitting out words, the little seagull suddenly flew away in fear. A man came over, and with great force, flipped the turtle onto its back. As the man walked away, he laughed and said,
“I don’t have time now. I’ll come back later to carry you onto the boat.”
The old turtle realized something bad was about to happen and could only wait for misfortune. The little seagull flew back, shocked to see the turtle lying on its back, motionless.
“Grandpa, with all your great powers, are you just going to wait here for someone to take you away?”
Hearing this, the old turtle, ashamed, covered its face with its two front legs.
